Abstract
This paper proposes a new model for shared buffer allocation at the input of a Non-blocking packet switch with self-similar traffic input, employing a big buffer for input of heavy traffic and a small buffer for input of light traffic. The main idea is to apply the algorithm of the discrete Kalman filter to predict the incoming traffic in order to manage input traffic, reduce packet loss probability, and improve the throughput of the switch.
