Abstract
This paper proposes a new technique called "Hybrid P&OCurrent Sweep" for tracking the maximum power point (MPP) of Photovoltaic (PV) system. In the proposed technique, Perturb and Observe (P&O) method is used in conjunction with the Current Sweep method to track the global maximum power point even under partial shading. Under partially shaded conditions, the P&O technique may converge to one of the local maxima points; this means that the tracking of true MPP is not acheived. In the developed system, a new capturing algorithm is adopted to capture the partially shaded condition and to properly activate the global peak (GP) search mode which is based on the current sweep method. Simulation results verify that the proposed technique can achieve the true MPP under non-uniform irradiance condition.
