Numerical groundwater quality assessment model using two-level explicit methods

Abstract
In areas of many developing countries in which landfill operations are used, leachate water is a source of the issue of surface water and groundwater contamination. To evaluate drinking water quality, groundwater quality assessment is required, and the location of the polluting concentration must be approximated. There are several approaches for assessing the quality of groundwater, such as sampling and mathematical simulation. Under various scenarios, mathematical models are used to simulate the effect on groundwater quality over long periods of time. In this research, the use of numerical technique introduces a one-dimensional mathematical model of groundwater quality assessment. Two-level explicit methods, the Lax-Wendroff method and the traditional upwind method, are used to precisely estimate a better solution to the problem than the upwind method. The proposed simulation may be used in the future to forewarn of the problems of groundwater pollution around landfills.
