Abstract
This paper describes a pyramid-based method for clustering single polarization Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images. A pyramid of the image is first constructed by using the wavelet transform. The fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm is then applied to the pyramid with the coarse-to-fine approach. Finally, clustering is followed by a majority filtering to obtain more homogeneous regions. The algorithm has been tested on JERS-1/SAR images, and the results demonstrate its potential usefulness.
