Abstract

Visible Light Communication (VLC) for indoor use equipped with a Star redundant system, using LED (light emitting diode) light bulbs and photodiodes as data receivers and transmitters, respectively, was developed in this research. The data for the transmission experiment was in a text files format encoded with the Manchester algorithm. White-light LEDs were used. This system was tested with three types of photodiodes namely VBPW24R, FDS10×10, and OSD100-E. The data was backed up with 3 redundant control sets of LED modules. Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller was used in a case that one module is damaged. Via its USB port (Universal Serial Bus port), the system can also be connected to other devices such as smart phones and computers. Moreover, its monitor can display useful information about its operation as well as notifications to inform users about any malfunctions happening to a specific module.
