Abstract
In general tunnel alignment consists of straight line and curve line starting from one shaft towards arrival shaft which avoid underground obstruction. Tunnel alignment may be designed as circular curve and/or spiral curve for horizontal plane, as slope and sag or crest vertical curve. Directional control of EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) shield is significantly on how a shield is operated articulation angle at shield front part and jack stroke difference at tail shield part which are significant factors for TBM operation control in design curve alignment. These operational values are calculated and used as guideline to control the shield to be remained in its designed curve alignment which compared with instruction values from TBM survey guidance system and agreed with actual operation results on site in MRT blue line extension project, Thailand. © 2014 Korean Geotechnical Society.
