Abstract
Construction of a house in the rural areas of Thailand involves no architect. Being both, the chief engineer and occupant of the hut, offers the builder opportunities to alter components of the hut to his demands. The technical and aesthetic aspects of the aforementioned construction represent the cultural heritage of architecture that merits greater appreciation, further investigation for preservation and development, and wider dissemination in the academic circles. The study of materials and techniques employed by ancient Thai master builders is part of the Bamboo Architecture course, lectured by the author of the Department of KMITL Bangkok, Thailand. Participation in and completion of the course would help the learners form a holistic point of view, and thereby efficiently and effectively bridge bamboo architecture of the past with modern architecture in their decision making processes, concerning the creation of contemporary architectural works.
