Abstract
The application of combined remedial methods that enhances energy efficiency for cooling of buildings depends on efficient interactive effects to provide occupants with optimal living comfort. This paper aims to utilize small-detached houses in Bangkok to examine the best manipulation of architectural elements that can supply appropriate thermal environment in a Thai residential context, and proposes guidelines for passive design. Environmental factors such as temperature and air movement in a tropical climate were tested using computer modelling. Study results potentially propose the guideline for the architectural design process as well as recommend an interior environmental management model for post-occupancy indoor thermal improvement. The findings indicate that the proportion of a sub-division of internal space and open utility spaces are crucial ventilation factors to reduce thermal inertia for building cooling.
