Abstract

This paper presents an inrush current reduction method for a 1/2 HP (0.4 kW), 220 V, 4.8 A, 4 poles single phase split-phase type induction generator when connected to a grid using single-phase voltage control with power electronic equipment. A study and analysis of relationship between voltage, current and real power by laboratory tests under direct on line and soft connection conditions are given. Simulation and experimental results are in good agreement. According to testing results, it is found that the proposed voltage control is able to reduce 75-80 % of the inrush current when starting the connection. Research results will be guidelines in applications of effective single-phase induction generators for wind energy.
