Abstract
This paper presents a study of the harmonic filter design to reduce harmonic distortion caused by harmonic sources such as dc drives. Because of output current of synchronous generator (SG) was very high at low power factor (PF=0.6) and it is high temperature at stator coil around 115-125°C. The control exciter and main exciter of rotor are over load after that the turbine is trip. To avoid problem caused by the harmonics producing DC drive, the Passive Power Filter System (PPFs)are presented. The analysis includes the basic principles, the computer program and economic aspects of harmonic filter design. The major objectives in the study are (i) to improve the power factor, (ii) to reduced current and voltage distortion, (iii) to reduced resonance problems at a synchronous generator. Practically, it is ensured that the PPFs is best applied for standalone synchronous generator. The results show that the 5th filters are a very appropriate solution for most typical harmonic problems.
