Investigation of modulation index on iron losses in soft magnetic materials supplied by DMPWM inverter

Abstract

This paper studies iron losses and acoustic noise in soft magnetic materials supplied by delta-modulated PWM inverter (DMPWM). In the experiment, we use 0.5 mm-thick and determine equal peak fundamental flux density on each test procedure, with 0.3-0.9 modulation index and 1-5 kHz inverter switching frequencies. The results show that the difference of iron losses and acoustic noise depend on modulation index and switching frequency. Additionally, the results are useful for the criteria of designing standard inverter for low power losses.
