Abstract
The rotary photon drag effect is investigated by manipulating the superposition of Gaussian and Laguerre–Gaussian fields. The variance of the two-dimensional Gaussian field alters the spectral profile of the photon drag from circular to elliptical. As the spectral shape transitions from circular to elliptical due to variations in the Gaussian beam, the group velocity in the medium increases from c/8×106 to c/2×106. For a clockwise rotation of the medium, a corresponding clockwise photon drag is observed, whereas an anticlockwise rotation produces anticlockwise photon drag. The maximum photon drag angle is measured as θd=±0.2 radians. These findings highlight potential applications in image encoding and in establishing phase-matching conditions for Brillouin scattering.
