Abstract

In this paper, the design of a dual band quadrifilar helical antenna (QHA) is proposed for the radio beacon receiver in the application of the ground station of the low earth orbit (LEO) satellite. The new configuration of the QHA is proposed to achieve the dual operating frequencies (150 MHz and 400 MHz), which it is the combination of two bifilar helical antennas (BHA). The proposed antenna possess the hemispherical radiation pattern, dual-band operation, circular polarization and 2.2 dBic absolute gain. The simulation results are shown to demonstrate the antenna performance. © 2011 IEEE.
