Abstract
Emerging power system utilizes energy storage systems (ESSs) in many roles such as voltage fluctuation suppression, frequency regulation, load following, load leveling, etc. This paper presents an efficient method to evaluate load leveling application of ESSs on the generation expansion planning (GEP). The peak-shaving and valley-filling models are applied onto probabilistic production simulation (PPS) framework where optimal operation of ESSs is evaluated based on energy marginal analysis. The modified Thailand generation system considering different types of ESSs is considered to evaluate the solution quality and execution time of proposed method. Furthermore, simulation results signify that load leveling application of ESSs reduces system short-run marginal cost and carbon dioxide emission.
