Abstract
This paper proposes the computer aided design of an underground cable power distribution system. The computer program can be of help for searching for the suitable size of cable which is based on many parameters such as voltage level, electrical load, the length of installation, temperature, power factor, the height of the manhole, co-efficiency of the ground resistance, type of duct bank, etc. Moreover the characteristics of surge voltage and surge current waveforms which take place both on direct overhead wires and neighboring overhead wires, influencing the underground cable, are studied. This is an advantage for the designer in selecting the capacity of the lightning arrester. This program is found to be significantly useful for engineers who design underground wire distribution systems.
