Abstract
This paper determines the maximum free spectral range (FSR) and the minimum half power bandwidth (HPBW) of the ring and racetrack resonators based on silicon substrate using FDTD. At the optimum cross-section that provides the compromised efficiency, the relationships between HPB W against the coupling efficiency and FSR, against the racetrack round trip have been obtained. The relationships would be utilized to determine the possibly maximum FSR of 60nm and the minimum HPBW of 5nm, or highest quality factor for the ring microresonator with 1μm radius. © 2005 IEEE.
