Abstract
This paper proposes a new concept of optical modulation namely multilevel photon communication with binary pulse position modulation. This technique combines multilevel photon communication with binary pulse position modulation (BPPM) (or Manchester pulsed signals). In this initial work, optical signal set for four-level photon is designed with BPPM The derivation of an upper bound for four-level photon communication with BPPM is also done. Its performance is arbitrarily compared with those of the conventional multilevel photon communication by increasing photon per slot and fixing background noise. Finally, some promising remarks from this work are reseted e.g. improving its performance with multilevel error control coding, and optimum designing with related applications. © 2006 IEEE.
