Abstract
This paper is description of Permanent Virtual Connection (PVC) network interworking between Frame Relay (FR) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technologies. This management provides the functional requirements configurations across interface for network interworking between Frame Relay Service (FRS) and B-ISDN Permanent Virtual Connection Service (PVCS). The management herein was based on the relevant standards referenced. The FRS features to be support include; frame formatting and delimiting, error detection, connection multiplex, loss priority indication, congestion indication and PVC status management. The Frame Relay to Asynchronous Transfer Mode (FR-ATM) traffic management provides guideline for conversion of Frame Relay traffic conformance parameters to ATM traffic conformance parameters using the Generic Cell Rate Algorithm (GCRA) configuration. The management of the ATM layer and the FR PVC status management of the Frame Relay Service Specific Convergence Sublayer (FR-SSCS) can operate independently. The FR-SSCS layer shall use the PVC status from the ATM layer when determining the status of the FR PVCS.
