Ultra low voltage CMOS V-I converter and its application to RF bandpass amplifier design

Abstract
This paper presents the design of a low-voltage highly linear CMOS fully differential voltage-to-current converter suitable for high frequency applications. Based on the recently proposed class AB topology, the transconductor utilises a level shift circuit to allow high-linearity operation under low power supply voltages. HSPICE simulation of the transconductor using a 0.35-μm n-well CMOS technology shows that the circuit can achieve high-linearity and high current driving capability while operating at a single 1-V power supply voltage. The V-I converter is employed in the design of a 1-V bandpass amplifier with a center frequency at 2.5 GHz and a quality factor of 25. Simulation results showed that the bandpass amplifier offered an input-referred intercept point at -5 dBVrms.
