Speed control of asymmetrical two-phase induction machine using three-leg space vector PWM voltage source inverter

Abstract
This paper presents a speed control method of an asymmetrical two-phase induction machine driven by a three-leg voltage source inverter. A modulation strategy is based on carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation providing unbalanced phase voltages. Slip regulation control is used for keeping the rotor speed constant as speed required in conjunction with scalar V/f control. The simulation results illustrate the performance of machines for both motoring and generating modes. It is found that the unbalanced voltage case for auxiliary and main windings offers the better machine performance over the balanced voltage case in terms of torque ripple in a motoring mode and power transfer in a generating mode.
