Abstract
This paper presents an improvement of throughput and bandwidth efficiency of Multi-token WDM Ring networks. The improvement is based on MTIT (Multi-Token Inter-Arrival Time) protocol which is designed to control the data transmission over all-optical network. Through the use of non-electronic devices, an advantage of the all-optical network is the higher network speed. This paper proposes PMTIT (Probing Multi-Token Inter-Arrival Time) protocol, which uses a probing token for determining the next sender node. Then, the next node can immediately transmit data without waiting for the token. Consequently, the propagation delay of the transmission is reduced.
