Local reverse backup and resiliency buffer approaches for MPLS-based recovery

Abstract
In this paper, we present two approaches for enhancing current MPLS-based recovery. In order to resilience a QoS path from node or link failures, at present there are three main MPLS fault management methods; global, reverse and local recovery. The local recovery method is seemed to be the best choice in case of minimum recovery time with minimum packet losses; however, it has high level of path computational complexity related to reserving of per-node backup paths. Therefore, we proposed an approach called local reverse backup based on per-critical-node backup reservation. The proposed recovery method can be used to reduce the complexity of the local recovery method. According to performance comparison between all approaches, numerical results are presented. Moreover, packet losses during restoration time after failure are concerned. Therefore, we propose an addition of resiliency buffer to reduce packet dropping during failure detection time. © 2004IEEE.
