Abstract
Smartphones become one of simple machines used in everyday life. The design of prototype of a wireless health monitoring range of motion (ROM) system using smartphone application called TAN Scale. It is a new method for measuring shoulder range of motion in an orthopedic practice using a smartphone application to improve accuracy from physical examination. The aim is to evaluate the application, which uses a multifunctional sensor on the smartphone including gyroscope sensor and accelerometer sensor to measure the ROM of patients, considering validity by comparing its measurements to traditional way of measurement, invented by National Cancer Institute of Thailand (NCI). The application was tested in symptomatic postoperative shoulder patients measuring flexion movement and abduction movement. The results of the measurement showed responses of the angle of ROM which used to evaluate the symptom. The value of using this application is to ease up the use and makes the patients feel more relieve, because they can even test and follow their symptom by themselves.
