Abstract
The critical problem of the series capacitor compensation is the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) which causes the torsional oscillation in the generator-turbine system. To damp the oscillation, this paper focuses on an application of superconducting coil (SC) embedded into the photovoltaic (PV) generator. The DC chopper is used to interface the SC with the DC side of the PV inverter. The SSR damping controller is added to the active power control loop of the PV inverter. As a result, the stored energy in the SC can be suitably controlled so that the active power output of PV can be adjusted to damp out the torsional oscillation. Study results confirm the SSR stabilizing effect of the PV with internal SC.
