Abstract
Subsynchronous resonance (SSR) causes torsional oscillations in a turbine-generator of series capacitor compensated power system. To counteract the SSR, an installation of superconducting coil (SC) in the photovoltaic (PV) generator with a fault current limiting (FCL) function is proposed. The circuit and control scheme of the proposed device, which is referred to as the PV with SC-FCL, are described. When short circuits occur, the SC not only suppresses the short circuit current, but also damps the torsional oscillations. To gain the damping performance, the optimization of controller is performed. The simulation study signifies that the PV with SC-FCL is superior to the PV with SC without an FCL function in terms of stabilizing effect and required energy.
