Abstract

This research presents the method for electrostatic precipitator (ESP) design based on determining the initial parameter including inlet gas volume, collection efficiency, and particle diameter. In addition, the design for particle diameter 1 um from the incinerator dust which the migration velocity from the calculation is 0.087 m/s, collection efficiency 90%. The collection area can be calculated by using Deutsch-Anderson equation to estimate the total number of collecting electrodes and discharge electrodes. This research uses 2 mm for the diameter of the discharge electrodes, 76.2 mm (3 in) for the diameter of the collecting electrode, and 1 m for the length of discharge electrode and collecting electrode. The total number of each type of electrode is 31. The corona inception voltage from the calculation is 16.7 kV for the operating condition, temperature 150 °C pressure 1 atm, inlet gas volume 1000 m3/hr. However, the collection efficiency of ESP also depends on other factors, such as pressure drop and gas distribution in ESP, which neglecting in this research.
