Study of RC Quadcopter and RC Fixed-Wing RCS Estimation in an Outdoor Environment with L-Band Primary Surveillance Radar

Abstract

This paper presents a study of remote control (RC) quadcopter and RC fixed-wing radar cross section (RCS) estimation with L-Band primary surveillance radar (PSR), working at 1215-1350 MHz. Both RC were tested in an outdoor environment by using vector network analyzer which set up in monostatic radar type. The results illustrate a characteristic of RC quadcopter and RC fixed-wing with the channel impulse response in L-Band primary surveillance radar at each angle in term of the RCS estimation. The RCS value when using the PSR L-Band frequency range changed with the structure. Moreover, overall, the RC quadcopter and RC fixed-wing RCS values are approximately the same, possibly due to the fact that both of them are made of plastic.
