Abstract

This research paper has proposed the use of radar cross section (RCS) measurements as input parameters with a minimum root mean square (RMS) error matching algorithm on a touchless keypad model for localization of human’s index finger. To compare the localization performances, path loss input parameters are also used in the experiments. The touchless keypad model is tested in two different distances between the finger and the keypad under varying conditions. The experiments on the touchless keypad model are carried out in accordance with the IEEE802.15.3a (full band) and IEEE802.15.4a (high and low bands) ultra wideband (UWB) standards and in the horizontal polarizations. This research also examines the effects of Rx angles relative to the finger and of human factor on the RCS parameters by experimenting with seven volunteers.
