An induction heating machine (IHM) generates magnetic flux density (B) and high temperature for combining precious metals as products in a jewelry factory. Since factories require new generation IHMs for increased productivity and cost savings, a dual coil IHM development approach is presented here to replace conventional, single-coil IHM using electromagnetic analysis (EMA). First, the experiments and the EMA investigated B generated by a conventional one using the factory operating condition. Both agreed, confirming the methodology and reliability of the EMA, which was analyzed to determine B<inf>p</inf>. The B<inf>p</inf> represents a B property for the new dual coil IHM to be expected to generate a comparable signal to the single coil. Then, in development, two novel designs of dual coil IHM (series and parallel) were investigated based on current flow circuits. For these designs, B<inf>p</inf> was investigated using the EMA. As expected, the EMA results showed that both coils generated a different B<inf>p</inf>, which was unfortunately incompatible with the conventional IHM and thus was inappropriate in actual use. However, the series dual coil showed better applicability since it generated B higher than the parallel coil under the same operating conditions. Next, the EMA was applied to determine the B<inf>p</inf> of the series dual coil by varying the applied current (I), frequency (f), number of coil turns (N), and distance between coils (d). Finally, the EMA results revealed two options of the series dual coil with the optimum I, f, N, and d generating B<inf>p</inf> comparable to the conventional IHM, as intended, achieving the factory's need with two times the productivity.

A microwave kiln, made of silicon carbide and ceramic fiber, commonly employs in a household glassware production process. In this process, when the kiln was in a microwave oven, a microwave transmitted to the kiln generating a high temperature to fuse the glass inside. This article presents a thermal simulation to investigate the temperature inside the kiln based on multiphysics consisting of a high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The multiphysics results revealed the temperature inside the kiln in a transient state, consistent with the experimental results. As expected, the temperature increased with the increasing time of the process. Significantly, the silicon carbide had higher temperatures than the ceramic fiber; therefore, silicon carbide is a crucial material for generating heat inside the kiln. In addition, the temperature-increasing rate (TIR) inside the kiln depended on the kiln's thickness (Th). As a result, the thinner Th provided better TIR. The research findings can be applied to develop a high-efficacy household glassware production process.

A reflow soldering process (RSP) is generally implemented in advanced manufacturing factories for welding small electronic components together to create a product using heat generated at the welding tip (WT). Improper WT design and operating conditions may lead to defects in some products; therefore, optimizing both is immensely significant in developing the RSP. Accordingly, this article proposes a successful RSP development based on multiphysics in a hard disk drive factory consisting of transient thermal-electric and structural simulations. First, a new shape series WT was designed, and a conventional shape, parallel WT, was considered as a case study. Then, they were assembled and experimented with the RSP actual operating conditions to collect essential data. Next, the heat transfer was determined using a transient thermal-electric simulation (TES). The simulation results showed uneven WT temperatures depending on applied voltages, time, and shapes, which were consistent with the experimental results. The higher the applied voltage, the greater the temperature generated at the WT. Finally, after using TES results as loads, the structural simulation showed WT total deformations, which could be consistent with actually occurring defects. The findings from this research are a new design of series WT and proper multiphysics methodology for developing the RSP.

To solve the housing damage problem of a fractured compressor blade (CB) caused by an impact on the inner casing of a gas turbine in the seventh stage (from 15 stages), modifications of the trailing edge (TE) of the CB have been proposed, namely 6.5 mm curved cutting and a combination of 4 mm straight cutting with 6.5 mm curved cutting. The simulation results of the modifications in both aerodynamics variables C<inf>l</inf> and C<inf>d</inf> and the pressure ratio, including structural dynamics such as a normalized power spectrum, frequency, total deformation, equivalent stress, and the safety factor, found that 6.5 mm curved cutting could deliver the aerodynamics and structural dynamics similar to the original CB. This result also overcomes the previous work that proposed 5.0 mm straight cutting. This work also indicates that the operation of a CB gives uneven pressure and temperature, which get higher in the TE area. The slightly modified CB can present the difference in the properties of both the aerodynamics and the structural dynamics. Therefore, any modifications of the TE should be investigated for both properties simultaneously. Finally, the results from this work can be very useful information for the modification of the CB in the housing damage problem of the other rotating types of machinery in a gas turbine power plant.
