Item type:Publication, Synergistic effects of biomass-derived carbon quantum dots and Cu Co-doping on TiO2 nanocomposite for enhanced visible-light photocatalysis(2026-12-01) ;Zhao, Huali ;Noonuruk, Russameeruk ;Bootchanont, Atipong ;Porjai, PorramainThongpool, VoranuchThe development of sustainable approaches for enhancing the visible-light activity of TiO<inf>2</inf>-based photocatalysts has attracted considerable research interest. In this work, carbon quantum dots (CQDs)-Cu co-modified TiO<inf>2</inf> nanocomposites were synthesized via a hydrothermal method using butterfly pea ( Clitoria ternatea ) flowers as a biomass-derived carbon source. The Cu content was fixed at 1.5 mol% relative to Ti, while the CQDs loading was controlled by varying the butterfly pea precursor concentration from 0.25 to 1.25 g L−1, yielding 1C–Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf>, 3C–Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf>, and 5C–Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf> samples. The prepared materials were characterized by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). High-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed CQDs with an average size of approximately 4.29 nm and an interplanar spacing of approximately 0.23 nm. All composites retained the anatase TiO<inf>2</inf> phase after Cu incorporation and CQDs modification. Enhanced visible-light absorption was observed and is attributed to the formation of Cu-related sub-band-gap states and the sensitization effect of CQDs. PL analysis showed an emission peak at ∼415 nm under 660 nm excitation, suggesting the presence of upconversion photoluminescence behavior in the CQDs. Conventional PL spectra further suggested reduced charge-carrier recombination in the modified composites. Photocatalytic activity was evaluated through Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation under visible-light irradiation. Among all samples, 1C–Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf> exhibited the highest performance, achieving degradation efficiency of 99.28% within 50 min. The apparent reaction rate constant reached 0.1038 min−1, which was 2.23, 1.96, and 2.90 times higher than those of pristine TiO<inf>2</inf>, Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf>, and 3C–Cu–TiO<inf>2</inf>, respectively. Radical scavenging experiments indicated that •OH and h+ were the dominant reactive species, while •O<inf>2</inf>− also participated in the degradation process. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of Cu and biomass-derived CQDs in improving visible-light harvesting and charge separation, providing an effective approach for developing visible-light-responsive TiO<inf>2</inf> photocatalysts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optimization of Pr3+-doped glasses for photonic applications: an overview and challenges in Judd–Ofelt analysis(2026-07-17) ;Kesavulu, C. R. ;Soumya, S. ;Saikia, Darshana ;Jayasankar, Deviprasad ChalicheemalapalliPecharapa, WisanuCharacteristics (optical, luminescence, up-conversion, etc.) of triply ionized Praseodymium (Pr3+) ions doped glasses, glass-ceramics, phosphors and crystals have been widely studied for the development of photonic devices. Most of these characteristics are mainly based on Judd–Ofelt (JO) theory to interpret transition intensities and in turn to simulate radiative properties of Pr3+ ions based optical materials. However, JO analysis provides inconsistent results for Pr3+:glasses. Further, besides no review is available focusing on uneven findings of Pr3+:glasses. Therefore, a comprehensive data on Pr3+:glasses have been collected (490 Pr3+:glasses) and compared, besides labeling glass compositions systematically. The properties that are reviewed include, Nephelauxetic effect, optical energy gap, thermal, JO parameters, radiative properties, etc. It has been noticed that the systematic study either in preparation or optimization of characteristic properties are very much missing. Moreover, large number of data sets of literature are presented at one place which is very much useful for predictive modeling approaches. Also, the primary focus of the present review is not to provide a comprehensive summary of all studies conducted so far or to discuss new findings, but rather to highlight the challenges associated with JO parameters for Pr3+ ions that influence the development of optical materials, components, and applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Repeated disordered structure for radiative cooling application via scalable stamping method from designed CaCO3 templates(2026-07-01) ;Kaewmanee, Taweesak ;Sakata, Patawee ;Gridtayawong, Pharit ;Rueangsawang, WorawutPonghiransmith, ChattraratRadiative cooling via micro-patterned surfaces provides energy-efficient solution for thermal regulation by enhancing selective thermal emission within the atmospheric transparency window (8–13 μm). This study investigates the effects of microstructural patterning through a low-cost and scalable stamping technique. The patterning templates were uniquely produced by the removal of randomly-distributed CaCO<inf>3</inf> polymorphs—calcite and vaterite with specific sizes. The novel calcite-imprinted structures exhibit superior mid-infrared emissivity (>0.96) and maintain consistent temperature reduction across varying weather conditions, outperforming vaterite-based films. However, the cooling performance of unmodified patterns is limited by solar absorption. To address this, TiO<inf>2</inf> (rutile phase) is incorporated into a polymer matrix before being stamped to enhance solar reflectivity. Moreover, hydrophobic aerogels could be inserted between micropattern gaps to facilitate self-cleaning functionality. A composite film containing 3 wt% TiO<inf>2</inf> with the calcite micro-patterning and hydrophobic aerogel achieves a temperature drop of 4.8 °C, compared to 1.2 °C of pristine patterns relative to that of a clear film. For real-world applicability, the optimized patterning strategies were further validated on fiber cement rooftile surfaces, yielding best temperature reductions of 2.5 °C compared to pattern-free coating under a tropical climate. The calculated net cooling power of 3 wt% TiO<inf>2</inf> patterned film with aerogel is 26.9 W/m2. This novel passive-cooling stamping strategy is low-cost, scalable, and suitable for large-area deployment, reducing the energy burden of active cooling technologies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Solvent-Dependent Green Synthesis of ZnO Nanopowders Using Mitragyna speciosa Leaf Extract: Impact on Piezo-Photocatalytic and Antibacterial(2026-07-01) ;Sanyen, Thanyapa ;Songpanit, Maneerat ;Kansaard, Thanaphon ;Wirunchit, SupamasChutipaijit, SuteeZnO nanopowders were synthesized via a solvent-mediated green route using Mitragyna speciosa Korth. leaf extract as reducing and stabilizing agents. Deionized water and methanol were employed to tailor the phytochemical composition of the extracts. The influence of extract concentration (5–20 mL) and solvent polarity on structural, morphological, and functional properties was systematically investigated. Structural analyses confirmed the formation of Zn-O bonds and a phase-pure hexagonal wurtzite ZnO without secondary phases. Surface morphology revealed solvent-dependent morphological evolution toward spherical shapes and reduced aggregation in the methanol-derived system. For antibacterial activity, green ZnO nanopowders demonstrated enhanced biocidal effects against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, comparable to that of commercial ZnO nanoparticles. Enhanced piezo-photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B was achieved under combined light and ultrasonic irradiation, with superior performance observed for methanol-derived ZnO. This enhancement is attributed to the synergistic interplay of solvent-induced defect states, reduced particle size, and piezoelectric field-driven charge separation. Scavenger analysis confirmed that superoxide radicals ((Formula presented.)) dominate the degradation pathway by green-synthesized ZnO nanopowders prepared from different solvent extracts. Thus, a correlation between solvent-mediated phytochemical environments and piezo-photocatalytic activity provides new insights for the design of sustainable, high-performance ZnO-based catalysts. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of Hexamethylenetetramine on Physical, Structural, and Photocatalytic Properties of ZnO Nanostructures Synthesized via One-Step Sol-Gel Process(2026-07-01) ;Songpanit, Maneerat ;Boonyarattanakalin, Kanokthip ;Basu, Soumya ;Okumura, HideyukiIshihara, Keiichi N.Wastewater contamination with synthetic organic dyes is a significant environmental challenge. Zinc oxide (ZnO) has attracted considerable attention as a non-toxic, multifunctional material for electronics, optics, piezoelectric devices, and photocatalysis, where its performance is strongly governed by morphology. In this work, we investigate the effect of hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) on the formation and photocatalytic behavior of ZnO nanostructures synthesized from different zinc precursors, namely zinc acetate and zinc nitrate, via a one-step sol–gel process at low temperature without any post-treatment. All samples crystallize in the hexagonal wurtzite phase without detectable impurities, and the incorporation of HMTA leads to smaller, more uniform rod- and flake-like nanostructures. Although ZnO derived from zinc acetate without HMTA exhibits the highest specific surface area, ZnO synthesized in the presence of HMTA shows more favorable crystallinity, morphology, and pore connectivity, which together enhance charge separation and reactive oxygen species generation. As a result, ZnO samples synthesized with HMTA exhibit improved photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B under UV irradiation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Turning the Near-Infrared Shielding Performance of Erbium/Antimony-Codoped Tin Oxide Nanomaterials Derived via a Sonochemically Assisted Method(2026-04-07) ;Kansaard, Thanaphon ;Noinonmueng, Tanisara ;Jayasankar, Chalicheemalapalli Kulala ;Mekprasart, WanichayaBoonyarattanakalin, KanokthipEnergy consumption is one of the most important concerning issues of environmental problems especially the global warming phenomenon, with energy usage being the main cause. To reduce the energy used for cooling systems, development of material for smart buildings for near-infrared (NIR) protection is a challenge of material society. Metal oxides including tin oxide (SnO2) with an antimony (Sb) dopant are a candidate owing to their NIR shielding property. However, the upgrading of NIR absorption performance with rare-earth doping due to the specific property of rare-earth elements especially erbium (Er) shows strong absorption of the near-infrared region. This article synthesized Er/Sb-codoped SnO2 nanoparticles by sonochemical and thermal treatment processes at various Er dopant concentrations with a Sb dopant concentration stabilized at 5%. Crystallinity and morphology exhibited the tetragonal phase of SnO2 with a sphere-like nanostructure with an approximately average size of 10 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to evaluate the chemical oxidation state of all elements, which verified the Er3+ and Sb5+ oxidation states of dopant ions, and oxygen vacancy observation led to the NIR absorption improvement. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optical and emission Spectroscopy and radiation shielding properties of Sm3+-Doped P2O5 + BaO + La2O3 glasses(2026-01-01) ;Kesavulu, C. R. ;Masthanaiah, E. ;Basavapoornima, Ch ;Depuru, Shobha RaniPecharapa, WisanuWithin lanthanide series, Sm3+(4f5) ion is relatively very complex electronic structure and similar to Dy3+(4f9) ion but both ions exhibit visible and infrared emissions. As such, characteristics (structural, thermal, optical, luminescence, etc.) of Sm3+ ion doped crystals, glass-ceramics, phosphors and glasses have been widely investigated for development of visible photonic devices, scintillators and magnetic components. In this paper, studies carried out so far on physical, structural, luminescence and optical characteristics of Sm3+-embedded glasses have been collected, tabulated and re-analysed in a systematic procedure besides our own work on P<inf>2</inf>O<inf>5</inf> + BaO + La<inf>2</inf>O<inf>3</inf> + Sm<inf>2</inf>O<inf>3</inf> (PBaLaSm) glasses. All the quantified properties have also been reviewed besides the labeling of glass compositions in a meaningful way. The properties that are reviewed include, optical energy gap, Judd-Ofelt (JO), radiative, etc. The obtained JO parameters ( × 10−20 cm2) for the present glasses are Ω<inf>2</inf> = 5.57, Ω<inf>4</inf> = 5.22 and Ω<inf>6</inf> = 3.37. In the case of Sm3+ ion, it has been noticed that the JO analysis found to be not only sensitive to the co-ordination geometry of the surrounded glass composition but also on the number of absorption levels that are used for the JO analysis. Theoretical radiation shielding results for the studied glass found to be better than the RS-253-G18, RS-360, lead and ordinary concrete at 30 and 40 KeV. The decay rates for 4G<inf>5/2</inf> level of Sm3+ ions in the PBaLaSm glasses have been measured and are found to exhibit single exponential nature at lower concentration and turns into non-exponential at higher concentrations (≥1.0 mol % Sm<inf>2</inf>O<inf>3</inf>-doped glasses). The experimental lifetimes for 4G<inf>5/2</inf> level of Sm3+ ions are found to decrease from 2413, 2383, 2129, 2039, 1299 and 259 μs when concentration increases from 0.01, 0.05, 0.1,0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mol % due to cross-relaxation energy transfer. The non-exponential decay rates are well-fitted to Inokuti-Hirayama model for S = 6, indicates that the energy transfer is of dipole-dipole type. However, the overall observations outlined in this study for 48 Sm3+:glasses may be quite useful for those who are interested in this thrust area to plan and carryout systematic study to get constructive conclusion besides predictive nature. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization of Bi-doped FAPbI3 perovskite films investigated by X-ray absorption spectroscopy(2025-12-01) ;Wechprasit, Tirapat ;Bootchanont, Atipong ;Infahsaeng, Yingyot ;Wongjom, PoramedWannapaiboon, SuttipongA thorough investigation of perovskite structures formed through doping is essential for advancing the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells. In this study, Bi-doped FAPbI<inf>3</inf> perovskite films with varying Bi concentrations (0.5–2%) were fabricated using a spin-coating technique on ITO glass substrates. Then the films’ phase structure, local structure, and optical characteristics were analyzed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the pristine FAPbI<inf>3</inf> film exhibited both hexagonal and cubic phases, indicating structural instability. In contrast, Bi-doped FAPbI<inf>3</inf> films predominantly displayed a cubic perovskite structure, with a notable reduction in the XRD peak intensity corresponding to the hexagonal phase. UV–Vis spectroscopy showed that the undoped FAPbI<inf>3</inf> film had an absorption edge in the visible-near infrared range, while Bi-doping caused a redshift, indicating a reduction in the optical band gap. The calculated results show that optical band gaps decrease with increasing Bi, from a value of 1.49 (pure) to 1.43 (2% Bi) eV. X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analysis confirmed the oxidation states of Pb2+ and Bi3+ ions across all samples, with Bi ions replacing Pb in the local structure. Photoluminescence (PL) measurements revealed an increased PL intensity with 1% Bi doping (7 105) compared with pristine FAPbI<inf>3</inf> (4.7 105), suggesting a reduction in carrier recombination. These findings demonstrate the potential of Bi-doping to stabilize perovskite structures with improved optoelectronic properties. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The influence of palladium doping on the structural, morphological, optical and electronic properties of formamidinium lead iodide perovskite films(2025-12-01) ;Wechprasit, Tirapat ;Bootchanont, Atipong ;Infahsaeng, Yingyot ;Wongjom, PoramedWannapaiboon, SuttipongIn this study, we investigated the effects of palladium (Pd) doping on the properties of formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI<inf>3</inf>) perovskite films. Pd was doped at concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 2 % and coated onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates using a spin-coating technique. The crystal structure of the films was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), revealing that Pd-doping reduces the hexagonal phase while increasing the cubic phase in the FAPbI<inf>3</inf> lattice. The optical properties were evaluated using ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry (UV–Vis), showing changes in light absorption and a reduction in the energy gap with Pd incorporation. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to examine the morphological properties of the films, indicating significant surface alterations and formation of larger grain sizes due to Pd incorporation. The electronic structure of perovskite films was thoroughly investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). These findings demonstrate that Pd-doping significantly affects the structural, optical, and electronic properties of FAPbI<inf>3</inf> perovskite films, with potential implications for enhancing the performance of perovskite-based devices.
