    Natural montmorillonite (MMT) was facilely impregnated with a mixed solution of protonated chitosan (CS) and KNO3, which was then subsequently impregnated with sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) to ionically crosslink with chitosan, resulting in the MMT/xCS-20KNO3-TPP nanocomposites. The initial content of chitosan to MMT was varied from 2.5, 5 and 10 wt%, and while the TPP:chitosan weight ratio was kept at 1:5. The K+ and NO3- ions interacted ionically and were entrapped in the MMT basal spacing and the free volume of TPP crosslinked chitosan of the MMT/xCS-20KNO3-TPP nanocomposites. These nanocomposites were able to successfully prolong the K+ and NO3- releases, in which the cumulative released values (%R) ranging from 21 – 26 % for K+ and 0.37 – 0.65 % for NO3-. The presence of protonated amine in the chitosan played the dominant effect on the release profile of NO3- ion more than that of the K+ ion. The higher the chitosan content employed in the impregnation method, the more crosslinked chitosan structure in the MMT/xCS-20KNO3-TPP nanocomposites, resulting in decreased K+ and NO3-releases at each pre-determined soaking duration. The MMT/xCS-20KNO3-TPP nanocomposites have been considered as a promising choice for environmentally friendly fertilizers.

    ;
    Biodegradable materials are necessary for saving the environment. Natural ester is alternative liquid insulation that can be biodegraded and used in a transformer. Insulation system in a transformer, liquid insulation cooperates with solid insulation such as cellulose. Pressboard is the main kind of cellulose used in the transformers. Normally, the characteristics of solid insulation can be investigated and analyzed by diverse methods. This paper represents the study of AC breakdown voltage of non-impregnation, 8-hours, and 16-hours impregnated pressboard with natural ester with different moisture content. To vary the moisture content of the pressboards, they were heated at 100 degrees Celsius for 12 hours and 24 -hours in a vacuum oven. After that, the Coulometric Karl Fischer method was used to determine the moisture content. Before impregnation, the natural ester was heated at 100 degrees Celsius for 12-hours in another vacuum oven. To investigate AC breakdown voltage, electrode configuration and test circuit were set-ups according to IEC 60243-1. From the test result, higher' moisture content caused clearly lower AC breakdown voltage of the pressboards.

    This paper represents the polarization and depolarization current (PDC) characteristics of natural ester impregnated pressboards with different impregnation period. The pressboard specimen were prepared as a rectangular shape (the length and the width are 120 mm as well) and thickness dimension of the pressboard in the experiment was approximately 1.6 mm. The pressboards were dried up in the vacuum oven with temperature at 80°C for 12 hours under 200 mbar pressure. In addition, these pressboards were divided into 3 groups according to the impregnation periods. The 1st group, the pressboard was non-impregnated with natural ester. The 2nd and 3rd group, the pressboards were impregnated at 60°C for 8 and 16 hours, respectively, under 200 mbar pressure-controlled condition. The plane-plane electrodes inserted with the specified number of the pressboard specimens were prepared. These electrodes were installed in the test cell filled with the natural ester. A 24 kV AC Voltage was applied to the test cell for 3 months. At the end of the first month, half of the pressboard samples was token from the test cells. Then, the PDC characteristics of these natural ester impregnated pressboards were investigated. At the end of the third month, another half of the pressboard samples was token from the test cells to perform PDC measurement also. It was found that the PDC values of the pressboards with longer period impregnation process were lower than these of the pressboards with longer period impregnation process. Besides, the PDC values of the pressboards experienced with longer electric field stress period (3 months) were higher than these of the pressboards experienced with shorter electric field stress period (1 month).

    This paper represents electrical characteristics of natural ester impregnated pressboards under different impregnation period. Each pressboard specimen was prepared as a rectangular shape having the width of 100 mm and the length of 100 mm as well. Two thickness dimensions of the pressboard for the experiment were 1.6 mm and 3.2 mm respectively. All pressboards were dry up in the oven with temperature at 60°c for 1 hour. Next, these pressboards were divided into three groups according to the impregnation periods. The first group was impregnated with natural ester (FR3) for 3 hours with temperature at 60°c and 200 mbar pressure controlled condition. The second and third group were impregnated for 6 and 9 hours respectively with the same temperature and pressure condition. Then, the breakdown voltage characteristic of the impregnated pressboards were investigated according to IEC 60243-1. Besides, the capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor of the natural ester with various conditions were examined in accordance with IEC 60247. According to the test results, the pressboard impregnated for longer period provided higher breakdown voltage than the pressboards impregnated for shorter period by which the breakdown voltage of the pressboard impregnated for 9 hours was higher than the pressboard impregnated for 6 hours about 8-24% and the breakdown voltage of the pressboard impregnated for 6 hours was higher than the pressboard impregnated for 3 hours about 5-19%. Whereas the dielectric dissipation factor of the natural ester utilized for pressboard impregnation process for 3 hours was higher than the natural ester utilized for such process for 6 and 9 hours about 5% and 12% respectively. Moreover, the electrical characteristics of pressboard impregnated with natural ester was compared with that of the pressboard impregnated with mineral oil. The breakdown voltage of natural ester impregnated pressboard was higher than the mineral oil impregnated pressboard about 5-11% but the dielectric dissipation factor of natural ester was 30 times higher than mineral oil. It is clear that the time for impregnation significantly affects the breakdown characteristic of the natural ester impregnated pressboard. Furthermore, impregnation of the pressboard with natural ester provides better breakdown strength than the pressboard impregnated with mineral oil.

    Facile preparation of copper impregnated aluminum pillared montmorillonite: nanoclays for wastewater treatment
    (2016-01-01)
    Tepmatee, P.
    ;
    Copper impregnated aluminum pillared montmorillonites (Cu-iAlpill-MMTs) were prepared by adding Cu2+ solution into dried aluminum polyohydroxy cation intercalated montmorillonite using various Cu2+ concentrations, i.e. 4, 7, 10 and 13 wt% and then calcining at 500oC. The Cu-iAlpill-MMTs possessed slit-liked mesopores with pore diameters of 3.3-3.8 nm and ~6-35 nm as observed from the nitrogen adsorption isotherms. The mesopore quantities of Cu-iAlpill-MMTs gradually decreased with the increase of impregnated Cu2+ concentrations. The impregnated CuO occupied not only the interior interlayers, but also the exterior surfaces of Cu-iAlpill-MMTs. The Cu-iAlpill-MMTs with 10 and 13 wt% of impregnated Cu2+ could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli. The Cu-iAlpill-MMTs effectively acted as the heterogeneous catalyst for removal reactive orange 16 (RO16) in Fenton or photo-Fenton oxidation treatments. The higher impregnated Cu2+ and/or the longer treatment time brought about the higher percentage of RO16 removal.
