In order to be practical for converting 220 V and 50 Hz AC input into high DC output ranged between 3.5 and 4.0 kV to create underwater shockwaves in non-thermal technique for processing foods, this article presents an alternative approach for modifying conventional high voltage multipliers without magnetic elements, which are based on the use of parallel-connected Cockcroft–Walton multiplier blocks (CWMBs) in bipolar structure. The basic three-stage CWMB scheme as well as the effect of different capacitor values on its output is described. The modified high voltage multiplier with improved response speed consists of a full-wave rectifier (FWR), a two-phase driver block, a parallel-connected positive CWMB, and a parallel-connected negative CWMB. Both output voltage and power efficiency of the proposed scheme can be demonstrated by theoretical analysis results. Moreover, simulation results showing the characteristics of the proposed high voltage multiplier are also included.

This paper discusses the pulsed compensating current caused by partial discharge (PD) phenomena that flows inside the electrical equipment installed in the power system. Such electrical equipment like to be the capacitive coupler in the partial discharge test circuit. In order to study the pulsed compensating current of the PD measurement, artificial PD source such as corona, surface, and internal was used in this experiment. The electrical equipment like surge arrester combined with HFCT sensor utilized to detect the PD pulse current. Furthermore, this proposed technique has been applied for online PD measurement in substations. It was found that the surge arrester could compensate for the pulse current arising from the PD source. This study will be helpful information for online PD measurement.

This paper discusses signal transmission in the grounding system. During online partial discharge (PD) measurement for the high voltage (HV) apparatus, various PD pulse currents recharge the dielectric of HV apparatus when a PD occurs. One of the noise typologies that affects PD patterns is called the cross-talk, that is, discharges that appear in the measured point due to coupling from another point. In order to study the cross-talk signal, the two PD measuring circuits which are circuit no.1 and circuit no.2, on the same grounding system in the HV laboratory were performed. The distance between two PD measuring circuits is about 20 meters. The artificial PD models were utilized to generate the PD signal injecting to the test circuit no.1, while the cross-talk signals were investigated in circuit no.2. The HFCT sensors were used to measure the PD signal in circuit 1 and the cross-talk signal in circuit 2. The measurement results found that the cross-talk signal transmission in grounding systems provides a bipolar PRPD pattern, and the pulse waveform shows an oscillation shape. Moreover, onsite PD measurements of the generator steam turbine were studied. It is noticeable that the knowledge about cross-talk phenomena in grounding systems can help the PD verification and location for online PD measurement.

This paper proposes a successful technique for designing a PIDA (proportional-integral-derivative-acceleration) controller in both continuous-time and discrete-time frameworks, which provides better transient response specifications in comparison with PID (proportional-integral-derivative) controller for third-order plant. The proposed design technique consists of three major steps. First, the PIDA controller is designed by using Kitti's method based on root locus technique in the control loop. Second, the maximum percentage overshoot can be decreased to satisfy specification by applying the forward controller. Based on these two steps, all desired specifications can be achieved without trial and error method for tuning controller parameters. Lastly, the Posicast controller is simply designed because the controlled system can be approximated as a standard second-order system. The performances of the designed PIDA controller are confirmed through MATLAB simulation results.

Dissolve gas analysis (DGA) is a diagnostic test technique applied for transformer condition evaluation. The interpretation of the dissolved gas results is a significant procedure to classify the incipient fault types in transformers. A variety of dissolved gas interpretation methods utilized for the same investigation case may give different fault type results. This paper investigates the performance of dissolved gas interpretation methods, including Doernenburg Ratio, Roger Ratio, IEC Ratio, Müller-Schlliesing and Soldner Method, Duval Triangle, and Duval Pentagon. The twenty-four failure transformer cases are used to evaluate the performance of the dissolved gas interpretation methods. The test result shows that the Duval pentagon interpretation technique shows the highest consistency interpretation. Besides, the Duval pentagon method demonstrates the ability to identify a normal aging problem of the transformer insulation.

This paper presents an off-line partial discharge (PD) experiment conducted on a 22 kV/400 V distribution transformer, which was decommissioned after 20 years of service. The study investigates the impact of reduced oil levels within the transformer on PD characteristics that are expected to facilitate PD activity within the transformer. The experiments were performed with reduced oil levels below the top clamp and using both single-phase and three-phase voltage excitations, with PD measurements recorded for each case. The PD signals were measured using High-Frequency Current Transformers (HFCTs) and capturing current pulses of PD in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 20 MHz. Additionally, transformer oil tests were performed, including moisture content, oil breakdown voltage, and oil conductivity. The results of the PD measurements and oil tests are introduced and discussed in this paper.

Analysis of macrocycle schedules for an alternative of FF-based feedforward control
This paper focuses on analyzing the macrocycle schedules generated for an alternative implementation of Foundation Fieldbus (FF)-based feedforward control with hybrid architecture. The interested alternative control strategy is based on the use of the bias/gain (BG) function block to create feedforward summing function outside a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) function block for use to meet special operation requirements. An FF temperature control loop connected to the DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) providing built-in capability to execute function blocks in an H1 interface card is utilized as a case study to examine the effects of eight different configuration schemes on macrocycle schedules and function block synchronizations. Experimental results obtained from major configuration schemes by placing the PID block in the DCS host controller, the H1 interface card, and the temperature transmitter show that function block allocation affects the control performance to anticipate process disturbance effects.

This paper presents a new method for designing the PIDA (Proportional-Integral-Derivative-Acceleration) Controller for a third order system. The results from simulations shown that all desired specifications can easily met by changing only one parameter. Comparing of the performances of the closed-loop in continuous-time system from this new simple method called "Kitti's Method" with the design technique proposed by Richard C. Dorf, it shown that not only faster with smaller or no overshoot response can be obtained but also the closed-loop system is robustly stable guaranteed. All merits of Kitti's Method are also being held with incorporated Root Locus Technique in discrete-time control systems design. © 2009 SICE.

This paper proposes a technique to design the (n-2) stage PD (Proportional-Derivative) controller cascaded with the PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller in accordance with nth order plants. The Continuous-Time (CT) design is firstly reviewed to show the advantages of the Kitti’s method. The proposed technique is based on the Kitti’s method in combination with the use of First Order Hold (FOH) to discretize the CT plant and Delayed First Order Hold (DFOH) to discretize the CT controller for obtaining the proper Discrete-Time (DT) controller structure. The simulation results confirm that the proposed design technique can be applied to the DT framework with better specifications than it was expected.

The bushing is one of the important parts of a transformer. Once the transformer is operated; each transformer part including its bushing starts the degradation mechanism. In some cases, the dielectric strength degradation of the bushing can lead to severe consequences. Thus, the study and diagnosis of the bushing conditions are important. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of the oil-impregnated pressboard bushing under various oil conditions by filling the new mineral oil with a controlled moisture content and letting it reach an equilibrium state to examine the dielectric response of such bushing. To determine the dielectric characteristics of the investigated bushing, A Frequency Domain Spectroscopy (FDS) device was utilized. In the experiment, the dissipation factor, capacitance, and current measurement of the bushing with different water content level were measured. The bushing test object was tested with the frequency range of 1 mHz -1 kHz. The effect of moisture clearly influenced the low-frequency ranges of the FDS. The result will be discussed in the paper.
