Biodetection for non-invasive diagnostics of fluids, especially urine, remains a challenge to scientists due to low target concentrations. And biological complexes of the detection target may contain contaminants that also interfere with any assay. Dengue non-structural 1 protein (Dengue NS1) is an important biomarker for dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Here, we developed an Au-decorated nanowire platform and applied it with a sandwich fluorophore-linked immunosorbent well plate assay (FLISA) to detect Dengue NS1 in urine. For the platform, we fabricated zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires to provide a high surface area and then coated them with gold nanoparticles (ZnO/Au nanowires) to simply modify the Dengue NS1 antibody and enhance the fluorescence intensity. Our platform employs a sandwich FLISA that exhibits high sensitivity, specifically detecting Dengue NS1 with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.35 pg/mL. This LOD was 4500-fold lower than the LOD of a commercially available kit for Dengue NS1 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We believe that our ZnO/Au nanowire platform has the potential to revolutionize the field of non-invasive diagnostics for dengue.

The gluten protein is found in some rice and flour. The allergy of gluten, a little bit of gluten in diet cause long-term damage and dangerous to the body. Even tiny amounts of gluten in diet may bring enormous symptoms. The rapid and simple method for gluten detection is molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) combined with electrochemical analysis. In addition, magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIP) as known as Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles have used in combination with electrochemical measurement as well to improve the sensitivity of detection. In this work, the MMIP was combined with electrochemical technique. The Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reaction and then encapsulated with methyl methacrylate (MMA) as a functional group for gluten detection. Dynamic light scattering measurement clearly illustrates the average size of as-synthesized Fe3O4 nanoparticles as low as 150 nm. Chemical bonding, morphology, crystal structure and magnetic properties were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), respectively.

Chlorpyrifos is a highly toxic organophosphate pesticide that is widely used in global agriculture and household applications. It persists in the environment in, for example, rivers, lakes and the soil. A simple way to detect chlorpyrifos is by the use of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP), but MIPs lack the capacity for phase separation. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) have attracted attention for the detection of organic molecules. In this study, Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> magnetic nanoparticles, known as superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, were synthesized with kaolinite. Methacrylic acid is encapsulated as a functional group to obtain a MIP structure for the detection of chlorpyrifos. The crosslinker and initiator used in this work were ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and azobisisobutyronitrile, respectively. The morphology, chemical bonding and crystal structure as well as magnetic properties of the synthesized MMIPs were characterized through field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry and vibrating-sample magnetometry, respectively. Finally, the absorption and removal of chlorpyrifos from the synthesized MMIPs was confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography.

In this work, we present an encapsulation of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) by dextran40 and polyethylene glycol. The SPIONs were used due to their responsibility to the external magnetic field that recovered easily. Considering the biocompatibility, the SPIONs were encapsulated by dextran40 and polyethylene glycol MW 400 with the suitable combination ratio. The efficiency of encapsulation was evaluated and confirmed using FTIR, and TGA, respectively. The further propose of SPIONs coated with dextran40 and PEG400 can be applied in medical therapy and drug delivery.
