This work applies microwaves for synthesizing reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and waste material corn husk activated carbon composites as active electrode materials for symmetric supercapacitors. The rGO is activated by microwave treatment and corn husk carbon by KOH in processed hydrothermal activation, followed by compositing at various weight ratios. Among all compositions, rGO:H_Corn_C (90:10) is reported with the best properties, with a specific surface area of 314.2 m2/g and a high specific capacitance of 1152 F/g at 0.1 A/g. The optimized composite also delivered increasing energy and power densities of up to 160 Wh/kg and 9.68 × 102 W/kg, respectively, within a 1 V operating window. In an experiment by assembling a symmetric coil cell supercapacitor, the device showed a specific capacitance of 142.23 F/g at 0.1 A/g, cycling stability with 98.8% capacitance retention after 1000 cycles of charge-discharge, and peak energy and power densities of 40.68 Wh/kg and 5.74 × 102 W/kg. Overall, the composite material with a high content of rGO and corn husk-derived activated carbon prepared by the hydrothermal method exhibits high-performance for the material in supercapacitor applications.

We present historical context and review recent advances in the realisation of a photosensitised silicon solar cell, highlighting key theoretical and experimental developments. Emphasis is placed on the importance of electrostatic near-field interaction between the transition dipole moments of the luminophore and electron-hole pairs in the silicon crystal at a distance of a few nanometres. The very fast energy transfer then resembles the Förster resonance energy transfer between two molecules. Photon tunnelling via the evanescent field of the excited molecule (‘optical near field’) into optical states in silicon occurs at somewhat larger separation between the molecule and silicon, of the order of tens of nanometres. Accessing the critical Förster regime relies on oxide-free silicon surfaces and the covalent attachment of dyes, enabling efficient passivation and precise control of interface chemistry. Realising a complete photosensitised silicon solar cell remains a challenge and we outline promising directions and review recent progress that brings this goal closer to reality.

An automated system for measuring the energy gap E g of a p-n junction semiconductor diodes was presented in this study. The system, based on temperature-voltage (T-V) measurement, was designed and developed as a teaching tool to support teaching for undergraduate students. The energy gap of diodes was measured by varying the diode temperature from 273 to 343 K and by measuring the voltage drop across the diode while the bias current of diodes was kept constant at a specific value. In the proposed system, an Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller was employed to automatically acquire the temperature and voltage drop across the diode. T-V data were plotted, and then the slope and intercept were used to calculate the energy gap by a simplified diode equation. In this system, the temperature and voltage of the two diodes were measured simultaneously at different constant bias currents in the range of 10 μA-10 mA. The average E g value of 1.22 eV obtained in this work is in good agreement with that reported in the literature.

This study aimed to examine the pharmacological profiles of multiple chemo drug candidates in systematic circulation to enhance their specific interactions with five human cancer cell lines. ZnO nanoparticles were successfully bound with chemo drugs via physical adsorption. The drug loading capacity was confirmed by FTIR, whereas the loading efficiency was determined via UV–vis spectrometry. The mean hydrodynamic size increased to 69–82 nm after chemo-drug immobilization via non-covalent interaction with ZnO. Among the nine formulated chemo drugs, the carboplatin (CP)–doxorubicin (DOX)–ZnO complex under UV light irradiation exhibited high sensitivity towards human breast adenocarcinoma cells without affecting human keratinocyte immortal cells with an IC<inf>50</inf> of 0.137 µg/mL, whereas the loading capacity and efficiency of CP–DOX–ZnO were 77.81% and 99.05%, respectively. Fluorescence images confirmed that CP–DOX–ZnO using DOX served as a fluorescence enhancer specifically bound onto the cell membranes, which became almost saturated after 24 h incubation. Carboplatin–DOX–ZnO was possibly endocytosed by cancer cells and was selectively internalized into the target cells; thus, free chemo drug was released in the cytoplasm, which induced acute apoptosis. This resulted in complete inhabitation of growth signal of target cancer cells.

The electrochemical properties of NiCo2O4for using as electrode materials for the potential applications have been investigated by electrochemical measurement which composed of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic chargedischarge (GCD). These processes are generating the ion exchange between the electrode and electrolyte, wherein induce the surface change of the interface. Especially, since in the cycle ability measurement using the potentiostat needed to repeat the cycle into the electrode for many times, the effective of the electrode is reduced. In this research, digital holographic technique was used to investigate the different properties of interface of the NiCo2O4 electrode while operating under the various electrochemical techniques. In our DH recording, the surface change of the electrode was expose at the difference potential scan rate at 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 200 mV/s of CV, and the difference current densities at 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 20 A/g of GCD and vary times of cycle ability test every 50 cycle times to 1000 cycles. In the end the reconstructed DH images of the electrode have been used to analyze the results from electrochemical measurement.

The main objective of this study was to assess the antiradical properties of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation with carboplatin, an anti-proliferative drug used in the treatment of retinoblastoma. For the purpose of this study, the decomposition of 2,2(diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl) radical (DPPH*) was used to assess the free radical capacity of antioxidants and was followed by MTT measurements. To test the antiradical capacity, the effective concentration, antiradical power, stoichiometry, and number of reduced DPPH* were investigated. DPPH* has a peak absorbance at a wavelength of 515 nm, which disappears upon the introduction of the antiradical agents. Four agents were reacted with DPPH* and represented the possible reaction kinetic categories. ZnO nanoparticles and carboplatin-loaded ZnO nanoparticles reacted more strongly with DPPH* and approached a saturation state at 420 min. The remaining two antiradical agents, ZnO nanoparticles under UV radiation and carboplatin-loaded ZnO nanoparticles under UV radiation, reacted a bit slower with DPPH* and approached a steady state at 1440 min. Among the different four antiradical agents, carboplatin-loaded ZnO nanoparticles under UV light had the highest antiradical response with the lowest effective concentration value to the reduced DPPH* molecules. ZnO nanoparticles alone were found to be poor antiradical agent. Possible mechanisms were attributed to the number of hydroxyl groups available to decrease the number of DPPH*.

In this work, the use of Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> magnetic nanoparticles in the adsorption of rhodamine 6G solution was evaluated via absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy using the UV-Vis spectrometer. The adsorption mechanism of rhodamine 6G on Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> was determined with respect to the adsorbent dosage (2.5-10 mg/L) and treatment time (0-150 min). The experimental data revealed that the fluorescence quantum yield of rhodamine 6G was inversely proportional to the percentage of dye removal. The highest efficiency of dye removal was obtained at 10 mg/L Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf>, and the adsorption capacity was about 150 mg/g, together with a reduced treatment time of 30 min, owing to active adsorption of Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf>. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> magnetic nanoparticles were found to be able to quench rhodamine 6G dye molecules, which will aid in eliminating toxic and hazardous pollutants from dye wastewater, which are otherwise detrimental to the environment and human health.

Latent fingerprints represent valuable information-storage platforms, which play a key role in the forensic practice and health assessment. Recent works have explored novel image-enhancement methods in latent fingerprinting, which are associated with fluorescence dyes. In this study we improve the quality of fingerprint images, using a combination of fluorescence dyes and bimetallic nanoparticles. We find that Rhodamine 6G can serve as a kind of ‘glue’ adhering well onto Au–Pd core–shell nanorods. This system which employs molecules like α- amylase can be successfully used for recognition of artificial latent fingerprints. The appropriate mechanism can be coupling of localized surface plasmon resonance in the nanorods mentioned above and the emission of Rhodamine 6G. As a result, we observe notable enhancement of the images of artificial latent fingerprints.

Removal of dyes with the aid of photocatalytic nanomaterials illuminated with continuous-light sources has been given substantial attention in the recent years. In the present work we study the efficiency of dye degradation using some alternative photocatalytic nanoparticles under condition of pulsed illumination. Our specific purpose is to investigate the removal of rhodamine 6G dye basing on suspended Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> solution. The experiments are carried out in the batch mode when the effect of the exposition time (ranging from 30 to 150 min) on the dye removal is examined under both continuous and pulsed white-LED illuminations. Different pulsed-light frequencies and duty cycles are tested. We estimate the concentration of rhodamine 6G in the mixed solution following from its absorption spectrum measured with a UV-Vis spectrometer and determine in this manner the percentage of dye removal. Our main conclusion is that Fe<inf>3</inf>O<inf>4</inf> nanoparticles enable removing efficiently the rhodamine 6G dye under pulsed white-LED illumination. In particular, more than 90% of the dye is removed when the duty cycle is equal to 25% and the frequency to 30 kHz. The equilibrium state of this process is achieved in about 60 min.
