Item type:Publication, Mathematical Modeling of Energy Efficiency in Thai Sugar Mills: a Case Study of Different Production Scales from Three Mills(2025-01-01) ;Jirasuwankul, NirudhManop, ChalermchatEnergy efficiency in energy-intensive industry is the crucial issue on reduction of energy usage that affects energy cost and carbon emissions. One of the promised approaches in decreasing energy consumption is practicing energy efficiency improvement. In order to attain such conditions, energy efficiency models of the process must have to be known as a primary step by gathering data and relevant parameters to energy consumption throughout the production process. In this paper, a case study of mathematical modeling of energy efficiency of three different production scales from three sugar mills in Thailand is proposed. By appropriate applying mathematical models to the given data collection, the retrieval models of energy consumption and Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) had been obtained with a certain accuracy and precise prediction during a highly non-linear data range. The results illustrated that electrical and thermal processes of those three sugar mills have similar energy consumption and specific energy consumption models, whereas the retrieved energy consumption models are different to the specific ones respectively. The key finding results in this study is useful for energy management in sugar production industry in two levels. The first is production planning with minimum energy cost by applying the SEC models corresponding to thermal or electrical energy related process. The second is that the SEC models can locate the most-significant energy use and opportunity to technical improvement or retrofitting the process. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Main purposes of this paper are to find the maximum number of EVCS that can be loaded to power system and to rank the critical areas under EVCS load changing by using the repeated power flow calculation technique. Results from the calculation are for the integration planning of distributed renewable generators (DRG) to reduce system congestion. Typically, the critical areas are buses or devices that violate of system control limits. The system control limits are consisting voltage limit and load percentage limit of power transfer devices. All critical areas are needed to improve system stability and reduce system congestion for support the EVCS growing. In this study, The EVCS have been installed on main roads in Thailand’s North-eastern area from Bangkok to Nong-Khai province with a length of 624 km. The EVCS were installed every 50 km, totally 11 stations, and connected to 115 kV substations in the system. The impact study results found that the system experienced with congestion problem on following elements: a) 11 critical buses at 115kV network, b) one critical bus at 230kV network and c) one transmission line is overload to 100 percent at 115kV network when each of EVCS station load increase to 30 MW. In addition, study results reveal that when installed DRG at the right and proper locations, these can reduce congestions situation, reduce system losses and enhance system stability - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter with Reactive-Power Compensation for Single-Phase Grid-Connected System(2023-01-01) ;Boontua, Sakdawut ;Jirasuwankul, Nirudh ;Kongsuk, PrayadKinnares, VijitThis paper presents the power factor compensation of a grid-connected system using a five-level cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (FCHMLI) supplying real power and reactive power (pq-power) to the grid system. The FCHMLI output power is controlled using a vector control based on the dq-axis synchronous reference frame technique. This methodology can control the pq-power between the FCHMLI and the grid system that can inject or absorb independently. The real power and reactive power can be controlled independently with d-axis and q-axis currents, respectively. The grid system is connected with the resistive and inductive loads that provide the lagging of grid power factor. The proposed technique has been simulated by MATLAB/Simulink program in order to verify the correctness of the proposed control scheme. The simulation results are found the FCHMLI can inject not only real power but also the reactive power to improve the grid power factor associated with linear loads resulting in near unity power factor. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Investigation on Current Ripple and Electromagnetic Interference in High Voltage Powertrain Systems for Electric Vehicles by Using Crosslinked Polyolefin Insulation Shielded Cable(2022-01-01) ;Singhasivanon, Jakawan ;Jirasuwankul, NirudhKiddee, KunagoneAt this moment, the powertrain system of Electric Vehicles (EVs) tends to use high voltages and high currents when the EVs operate at High Power (HP) mode. The Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is caused by Electromagnetic Field (EF), high voltage, and current ripple. EMI affects EVs, whereas the Shielding Effectiveness (SE), and the proportional inverse of the transfer impedance prevent the effect of EMI. This research aims to investigate the current ripple the EMI in high voltage powertrain systems for EVs by using the developed crosslinked polyolefin insulation shielded cable, 50 mm2 single-core HP XLPO shielded cable with 0.15 mm annealed tinned-copper wire braid material. The experiment consists of three parts. The first one investigates the tendency of SE and current ripple. The second part shows the analysis of the effect of HP mode to the cable. The third part is an additional study that compares and analyzes the transfer impedance. The results indicate that the cable operates properly in the frequency above 200 Hz, transfer impedance decreasing between 11.5% to 15.25%, induces the SE and reduces the current ripple in the higher frequency range. The results obtained from this research represent a preliminary investigation guideline in decreasing the effect of EMI in EVs by using 50mm2 single-core HP XLPO shielded cable with 0.15 mm annealed tinned-copper wire braid material in a high-power range. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The preliminary study of partial discharge behavior of crosslinked polyolefin (XLPO) unshielded cable insulation under temperature variations(2021-05-19) ;Singhasivanon, JakawanJirasuwankul, NirudhAn emerging of new material, XLPO, has now been widely used as power cable insulation and it is necessary and compulsory to perform compliant standard test. According to the IEC 60270, partial discharge (PD) test is the promised and nonintrusive method to determine quality of insulation. In this paper, XLPO insulation of the unshielded cable has been preliminary tested by measuring its PD behavior under different temperature exposure. The experimental results illustrate that occurrence of partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) forms as parabola with a convex trend under temperature variations. It is also found that XLPO is less susceptible to PDIV when compared to PVC insulation under the same conditions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An experimental study on dielectric response of the crosslinked polyolefin (XLPO) insulation of the unshielded cable under electric field and heat flux(2021-05-19) ;Singhasivanon, JakawanJirasuwankul, NirudhNowadays, crosslinked polyolefin cables (XLPO cables) are more popular and more famous for electrical insulation. In order to study and analyze the characteristics of insulation. The polarization and depolarization of current measurements (PDC measurement) is one of the advance methods that can compute and provide dielectric reaction parameters. In this paper, aim to study dielectric response of the XLPO insulation of unshielded cables under electric fields and heat fluctuations by measuring permittivity (ϵ′, r), conductivity (σ) and dissipation factors (Tan δ). The experimental results indicate permittivity is rather constant at different field strengths and temperatures and are similarly to XLPE insulation. It is also found that the activation energy of XLPO insulation is 0.77 eV. Future more, action energy in this research can excite electrons or ions in valent band within insulations to change the state from non-conductivity to conductivity. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Effects of Demand Fluctuation and Mitigation Strategy in Low Voltage EV Charging Station by Battery Energy Storage System(2021-01-01) ;Jirasuwankul, Nirudh ;Klongboonjit, SakonManop, ChalermchatIn this paper, the effects of fluctuating demand on a low voltage electric utility system equipped with electric vehicular charging station have been studied and mitigation strategy has been proposed. By applying Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and demand management (DMM), the stored electric energy during an off-peak period is controlled to supply the spiky demand during the EV charging period. Employing different approaches of discharging control, the BESS can response and shape the peaky demand into the smoothed one with an elevated load factor. Therefore, the result is that energy cost of EV charging has been reduced by cutting the demand charge during the on-peak period and the power quality of the system has also been improved. These findings are confirmed and illustrated by simulation results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Comparative Testing of Breakdown Voltage Versus Polarization Current of 0.6/1kV XLPE Cables with Different Defects(2018-07-02) ;Singhasivanon, Jakawan ;Jirasuwankul, NirudhPattanadech, NorasageIn this paper, a study of breakdown voltage versus polarization current was performed comparatively to explore whether there was an existing of relationship between the two phenomena. The experiment was performed on low voltage \pmb{(0.6/1\mathrm{kV})} XLPE cables with three different cases of defect, case 1: conductor cladded with small and thin copper strip, case 2: conductor cladded with thin plastic ring, and case3: conductor cladded with plane paper strip. The results illustrated that breakdown voltage tends adversely to polarization current in all test cases. When the polarization current was increasing, the breakdown voltage was decreasing. Whereas the polarization current was decreasing, the breakdown voltage was increasing. It was also found that defective cable with thin copper strip has the lowest breakdown voltage whereas one with plane paper strip has the highest breakdown voltage.
