Item type:Publication, An improved 2DPCA for face recognition under illumination effects(2015-01-01) ;Woraratpanya, Kuntpong ;Sornnoi, Monmorakot ;Leelaburanapong, Savita ;Titijaroonroj, TaravichetVarakulsiripunth, RuttikornPrincipal component analysis (PCA) is one of the successful techniques for applying to face recognition, but its challenge still remains for solving an illumination effect condition. This paper proposes an improved 2DPCA (I-2DPCA) for overwhelming the illumination effect in face recognition. The proposed method is based on two assumptions. The first assumption is to create the covariance matrix that can effectively decompose the components of illumination effects from the eigenfaces. This avoids the illumination effect problem. The second assumption is to select the suitable eigenvectors that can significantly improve the recognition rate. Based on the Extended Yale Face Database B+ containing 60 illumination conditions, the experimental results show that not only does the proposed method decrease the computing time, but it also improves the recognition rate up to 95.93%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Text-background decomposition for thai text localization and recognition in natural scenes(2014-01-12) ;Woraratpanya, Kuntpong ;Pasupa, Kitsuchart ;Suttapakti, Ungsumalee ;Boonchukusol, PimlakTitijaroonroj, TaravichetThai text localization and recognition in natural scenes is still a grand challenge in current applications. However, the efficiency of recognition rates depends on text localization, i.e., the higher purity of text-background decomposition leads to the higher accuracy rate of character recognition. In order to achieve this purpose, the text-background decomposition methods, namely adaptive boundary clustering (ABC) and n-point boundary clustering (n-PBC), are proposed to improve a precision of text localization. These methods are evaluated by self-en-tropy for purity measure. Based on 300 test images, the experimental results demonstrate that the ABC method achieves the very low self-entropy, i.e., the low self-entropy implies the good decomposition of text and background. Furthermore, based on 8,077 characters in natural scene test images, the ABC method helps increase the precision of text localization and improves the accuracy rate of character recognition, when compared to the conventional methods. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An ontology-based multi agent autotnotive parts transportation management system(2013-12-01) ;Phutthisathian, Areeworn ;Maneerat, Noppadol ;Varakulsiripunth, Ruttikorn ;Takahashi, KaoruKato, YasushiThis paper presents an ontology-based multi agent automotive parts transportation system. The system is used to decide for a route of transportation by Dijkstra's algorithm and Ontology Concept to find the shortest path. This system collects the traffic data and vehicle's position for a suitable path decision. So the user can control and monitor the automotive parts that are transported to production lines, especially in the traffic jam. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Load distribution using modified RED for multipath TCP communication(2013-01-01) ;Prabhavat, Sumet ;Varakulsiripunth, Ruttikorn ;Utsumi, SatoshiKato, YasushiDemand for large bandwidth network connections is growing continuously while network connections via multiple paths can exist because of high degree of connectivity. Utilization of the multiple paths is an economical solution for provisioning large network capacity to meet the users' requirements but it brings about key issues such as load imbalance (causing a large queue and buffer overflow at a gateway) and packet reordering problems that have significant impacts on TCP connections. In this paper, we propose a load distribution model for TCP transmission, called Load Distribution over Multipath with Extended Drop Slope Random Early Detection (LDM/ExRED). LDM/ExRED takes advantages of RED mechanism to maintain a small queue, avoid buffer overflow at a gateway, and mitigate packet reordering problem. In addition, it reduces peak buffer occupancy by using our modified RED (i.e., ExRED). Our work will be evaluated and compared to the other existing models by simulations under realistic traffic conditions. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Improved Thai text detection from natural scenes(2013-01-01) ;Woraratpanya, Kuntpong ;Boonchukusol, Pimlak ;Kuroki, YoshimitsuKato, YasushiThai text detection from natural scenes is still a challenging task for language translation applications, since there are many unsolved issues. Furthermore, the existing related works cannot completely detect Thai text. The main reason is that Thai text layout has vowels and tonal marks that differ from other languages. This paper proposes an approach to detect Thai text from natural scenes. The approach consists of two main procedures. (i) Fast boundary clustering algorithm decomposes scene features into multilayers, so that it is faster and easier to analyze Thai text characters. (ii) Modified connected component analysis method is applied to such scene features in order to detect Thai text boundaries. Based on 150 test images with 4,920 characters, the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves the high average precision and recall, 0.80 and 0.90. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Provision of Thai herbal recommendation based on an ontology(2010-08-23) ;Kato, Takumi ;Maneerat, Noppadol ;Varakulsiripunth, Ruttikorn ;Izumi, SatoruTakahashi, HideyukiIn Thailand, most of people like to use Thai herbs for their traditional medical treatments. However, since there are various sorts of Thai herbs, and the Thai herbal knowledge is complicated, it is difficult to find an appropriate one for each health condition. In order to help people to find suitable Thai herbs to cure the diseases, we have developed a system to provide herbal recommendations to users regarding their symptoms. In the development, we represented the Thai herbal knowledge in an ontology, and extracted new facts based on the ontology. Finally, the system provides appropriate herbal recommendations to users based on extracted facts and the ontology. This paper shows how we represented Thai herbal knowledge in an ontology, and how we extract the new facts based on the ontology, as well as how the system provides herbal recommendations to users. © 2010 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Application of protégé, SWRL and SQWRL in fuzzy ontology-based menu recommendation(2009-12-01) ;Fudholi, Dhomas Hatta ;Maneerat, Noppadol ;Varakulsiripunth, RuttikornKato, YasushiWe develop a daily menu assistance system which is built to give a suggested daily menu based on daily calories need. In this paper, we design a recommendation feature using fuzzy ontology to give menu recommendation by few factors, such as price, rate, vote and taste, since so many menus are suggested. Protégé, SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) and SQWRL (Semantic Query-Enhanced Web Rule Language) are used to show that this feature provides user the more specific, recommended and preferable menus. Protégé, an open-source ontology design software, is used to develop menu recommendation ontology. SWRL is used to build fuzzy ontology classes and properties mapping, and also calculations. SQWRL performs a query in menu recommendation results. ©2009 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance analysis on the controllable Slotted DS-CDMA with an allocating buffer for collided traffic(2005-01-01) ;Asavaruk, Seri ;Sittichivapak, Suvepon ;Varakulsiripunth, Ruttikorn ;Kato, YasushiShiratori, NorioThis paper presents an analysis of the Slotted DS-CDMA system with modified node components in order to construct a load control structure in which the service rates of each node can be dynamically adapted without using feedback information. In contrast to the traditional Slotted DS-CDMA which is widely represented with single queue, prior emphasis of the approach is laid on the usage of an additional queue which is applied to manage the collided packet traffic while its queue size is also used as a load control parameter. Semi-Markov process is applied to describe the statistic behavior of the system in steady state. Trade-offs between two major performance parameters, i.e., delay and throughput, are presented and compared with those of the traditional system. Results obtained from the simulation and numerical analysis using queuing concept are compared. With these results, an advantage performance for group packets is shown, and we finally extend the concept based on the obtained results to describe a simple algorithm using one way control message as the tool to alleviate the stability problem. Item type:Publication, Composition of service and protocol specifications in asynchronous communication system(2004-01-01) ;Maneerat, Noppadol ;Varakulsiripunth, Ruttikorn ;Bista, Bhed Bahadur ;Takahashi, KaoruKato, YasushiOne of the important techniques in communication system design is the composition of service and protocol specifications. In this paper, we have presented a new approach to the composition technique based on the weak bisimulation concept The main objective is to combine service specifications and protocol specifications individually and simultaneously. The composition technique can maintain the equivalence between the composed service and protocol specifications. LOTOS language terms are utilized to describe the communication specifications. The application on the asynchronous model is presented. Moreover, a support system of the composition technique is developed and presented in this paper.
