    Throughput is an important parameter that it is used to measure the performance of wireless local network (WLAN). In this research, we proposes a new discrete time Markov chain model to calculate the boundary of saturated and unsaturated throughput efficiencies in WLAN channel. Both throughput parameters are compared in fixed back off stages and fixed contention window sizes (FBFC) technique by applying the global balance equation concept in steady-state distribution of discrete time Markov chain model. Also, the collision resolution method of transmitted packets through WLAN channel uses the Binary Exponential Back off (BEB) algorithm based on Carrier Sense Multiple Accesses with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. Our numerical results show that the throughput of unsaturated channel is higher than the saturated channel at light traffic load. On the contrary, the throughput of unsaturated channel is less than the saturated channel at high traffic loads condition.

    This paper proposes a prioritized resolvable‐contention‐ring scheme for high‐speed optical communication networks and investigates its performance. The priority mechanism is based on the time‐token control scheme. This mechanism attempts to guarantee the frame delay of time‐critical traffic by controlling the frame transmission of noncritical traffic. The noncritical frame can be transmitted only if token rotation time is faster than target rotation time. This paper examines the priority mechanism in the case of two priority levels and also in the case of four priority levels. System performance is studied using a computer simulation method with a time‐continuous simulator. The validity of the priority mechanism is demonstrated in a comparison with a fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) and the nonprioritized resolvable‐contention ring. Efficient operation of the priority mechanism is investigated by considering the buffer overflow rate of each priority class. The proposed scheme performs effectively. Moreover, the performance of FDDI is comparatively degraded because of long token waiting time and large token capture time. Copyright © 1992 Wiley Periodicals, Inc., A Wiley Company

    A design of self-authenticated Internet Protocol for Network Access Control
    (2016-09-06)

    ;
    This paper presents an application of Internet Protocol Options for enhancing self-authenticated feature to the Internet Protocol. The options consist of Keyed-Hash Message Authentication Code and timestamp. In the network access control system, local network devices needing to access protected networks have to attach the options to packet header before sending to destination through a network access controller or commonly known as a gateway. Internet Protocol packets with options are verified on the gateway, the Keyed-Hash Message Authentication Code is used for checking integrity of data and the timestamp is used for replay attack mitigation. Packets passing all processes would be allowed to access to the protected networks. The design of self-authenticated Internet Protocol provides a protection of sending source spoofed packets from local network causing damage to other networks and also provides high reliability of source identification.

    This paper presents a performance analysis of spectrally phase-encoded optical CDMA over WDM networks. Random access protocol is adopted to assign wavelengths. The discrete time Markov chain model is used to build analytical model of multi-channel random access protocol. We measure several performance characteristics, namely, steady-state throughput and average packet delay time. Additionally, the efficiencies of the system, which are based on both the processing gain and the number of WDM wavelengths, are considered. Exponential retransmission is used for solving packet collision problems. In our numerical results, system performance is given in terms of both average throughput and delay time. copyright © 2008 IEICE.

    A numerical analysis for contention resolution in contention slots of wireless DOCSIS
    Wireless DOCSIS was developed for an enhanced version of DOCSIS by a group of cable operators. It is used in broadband wireless applications on CATV network. In this paper presents a numerical analysis that is used to resolve the contention in contention slots of Wireless DOCSIS. This method assigns each user access to the each contention slot with difference persistent value. It can resolve the contention in contention slots. Furthermore, we also separate user and contention slot into many groups and assign the user in each group access to contention slot in each group with different persistent value. This method can reduce opportunity that many users access in same arbitrary contention slot. In this paper, we analyze the performances of method with the value of successful probability of system.

    Backoff algorithm is a technique to reduce packet collisions and to improve throughput efficiency in wireless local area network (WLAN). In this research, we propose a new backoff algorithm which is named Binary Exponential Increment Half Decrement (BEIHD) backoff algorithm. Furthermore, we introduce a new discrete Markov chain model for modeling the performance analysis of wireless local area network. A new model is called the Fixed Backoff stages and Fixed Contention windows (FBFC) technique. In FBFC scheme, the accuracy of the transmission probability parameter is derived from step by step procedure using the global balance equation concept in steady state condition. The saturated throughput efficiency of all backoff algorithms is compared under the same Physical layer (PHY) parameters and Medium Access Control (MAC) scheme in IEEE802.11a/b/g standards. Our numerical results show that the throughput performance of BEIHD backoff algorithm is better than the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm. Moreover, the distinction of BEIHD backoff algorithm is near the realistic system, and it can be implemented without to modify hardware in physical layer. © 2013 IEEE.

    Considering backoff algorithms efficiency focused on the effect of wall and floor materials for indoor radio network

    In this paper, we introduce a new theoretical scheme for evaluating the performance of backoff algorithms focusing on multiple types of wall and floor material such as: concrete, wood, glass and brick. The proposed scheme is an extension and combination between Bianchi and Multiwall- floor model, by applying discrete Markov chain theorem. In addition, we also propose two backoff algorithms which can improve the saturated throughput efficiency of IEEE802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN). The proposed backoff algorithms are called Binary Exponential Increment Half Decrement backoff algorithm (BEIHD), and Half Binary Exponential Increment Double Decrement backoff algorithm (HBEIDD). The numerical results show that significant improvement saturated throughput of HBEIDD backoff algorithm operates well for plywood wall and wood floor materials in indoor environment. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

    Experimental evaluation of UWB transmission waveform for short-range wireless networks
    (2010-12-01)

    ;
    In this paper, UWB transmission waveform is modeled by using multi-ray technique. There are three case studies. The first case concerns only the normal direct path. The second one considers two rays that consist of the direct and ground reflection path. And the last case considers the direct, ground and ceiling reflection path. These cases are used to approximately model the UWB channel in the anechoic chamber, outdoor and indoor environment, respectively. The transmitted and received antenna use the trapezoidal antenna and perform the same characteristics. The impulse responses of these antenna at each specific pointing angle are calculated by using FDTD transformation method to the far field region that are shown. The channel of this experiment is the free space and applies in the Friis' transmission formula. The UWB channel impulse responses of each case are illustrated. After that, the transmitted signal is set to be a modulated Gaussian pulse within frequency ranges between 3.1 GHz and 10.6 GHz. The matched filter reception is considered to maximize the SNR at the receiver for the evaluation. The received signal of each UWB model are shown. The effects of each UWB channel are described from the results. ©2010 IEEE.

    An implementation of internet protocol options for self-authentication
    (2017-11-03)
    Thamthawornsakul, Parinya
    ;
    This paper presents an enhancement of IP (Internet Protocol) standard to support user authentication within the protocol itself. The options field in an IP header is used for carrying specific data to add the ability of self-authentication. The specific data consist of a user identifier, a timestamp, and an HMAC calculated with important data in the IP header. The major purpose is to verify a device owner or a computer user in a local network in real time, before allowing access to restricted networks or the Internet. By this enhancement, the users can be authenticated at IP layer, without needing an additional user authentication process. The self-authentication ability provides a prevention of sending source-spoofed IP packet and also provides a high reliability of identifying the user. In addition, this ability does not require a creation of specific connection and an exchange of security parameters.
