A circuit technique is proposed for detecting the peak amplitude of a sinusoidal signal using Pythagoras's law without requiring a simultaneous equal-amplitude quadrature signal. The number of four-quadrant multipliers required is only two.© 1979, The Institution of Electrical Engineers. All rights reserved.

Transition between a flat magnitude and a sharp cut-off lowpass filter
    (1979-01-01)

A Butterworth lowpass filter provides excellent flatness around ω = 0 but the cut-off rate is low. Recently improvements to the cut-off rate have been made by introducing one ripple near the band edge. This paper offers a generalized design technique such that any degree of trade-offs between flat magnitude around ω = 0 and sharp cut-off at the band edge can be obtained while keeping the ratio of the reflected power to the transmitted power at minimum. © 1979 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

The design technique for a recursive digital filter with a maximally flat group delay at an arbitrary specified frequency is known. It is shown here that, for certain cases, the filter coefficients for high-pass and band-elimination recursive digital filters with a maximally flat group delay can be expressed in closed forms.

An easily integrable electronically variable phase shifter is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The circuit operation is in the current mode, and it can be directly employed as a subsystem of monolithic circuit A temperature compensated biasing circuit has also been suggested. An easily integrable circuit principle is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for the syntheses of a large class of voltage-controlled non-linear resistances. The resulting non-linear resistances are floating, bipolar and require low bias currents. © Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

An Alternative Simultaneous Maximally Flat Approximation for a Low-Pass Recursive Digital Filter

Digital filters with either maximally flat magnitude or maximally flat group delay are known [1]–[3]. This paper offers an approach to the design of a recursive digital filter with simultaneous approximation to both magnitude and phase. Although the same Taylor norm is used, this described technique is different from the previous approach [4] in the sense that it employs a power series expansion around ω = 0 in the z-plane. It gives an alternative insight into the problem for the designers who are more familiar with the z-plane than the Richards' λ-plane. The filter transfer functions are obtained explicitly in closed forms. Copyright © 1979 by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

A design technique for a recursive digital filter with simultaneously maximally flat magnitude and group delay at an arbitrary specified frequency is presented. It employs the power series expansion to formulate a set of simultaneous linear equations which can be solved with a standard computational algorithm. A novel mode of operation for a reverse-biased narrow i-region gold-diffused silicon p+-i-n+ diode exhibiting switching negative resistance is reported. The i-region width is in the range of 12–16 µm, and gold has been used to generate deep trapping levels in the i-region.
