This study investigates the barriers to the adoption of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) in the Thai automotive industry, which is a major economic growth and export competitiveness driver. It aims to offer evidence-based prioritization of barriers and causal relations to inform firms and policymakers in the transformation of smart manufacturing. The methodology follows three stages of multi-criteria decision-making model. Based on a literature survey and expert knowledge, the integration of Fuzzy BWM-PROMETHEE II was used for prioritization. Then Fuzzy DEMATEL is employed to illuminate the causal relationship among critical barriers. The Fuzzy BWM results highlight Customization, Flexible Production, Human-Machine Collaboration, and Cybersecurity as the most influential practices supporting I4.0 implementation. While analysis of Fuzzy PROMETHEE II and DEMATEL together identifies High Initial Investment, Supply Chain Integration as critical barriers and dominant causal drivers that influence other dependent barriers. Addressing these two factors initially helps accelerate digital readiness and enhance transformation performance. The study presents the advanced systematic ranking of I4.0 adoption barriers in the Thai automotive industry. The integration of Fuzzy BWM-PROMETHEE II-DEMATEL framework has a novel methodological contribution and also provides useful decision support to strategic planning and resource allocation.

An Object-Oriented Agent Framework for SCADA
    (2023-01-01)
The future of factory automation is certainly Industry 4.0, where SCADA software is its essential element. A more advanced SCADA software, namely “intelligent SCADA,” is needed to be developed to support Industry 4.0. In this paper, we shall investigate an intelligent SCADA software by proposing an object-oriented agent framework for it. The proposed framework is modeled entirely using the object-oriented approach; with its merit, we can represent and reason about machines’ state and change, and we can also model and reason about object language and metalanguage of what we call “a cyber-physical system.” Moreover, we gain a great deal of benefit from object-oriented concepts for this intelligent SCADA, such as inheritance, polymorphism, persistence, object-oriented design patterns and so on. We shall argue that our approach captures the notion of a cyber-physical system and a digital twin naturally as well as embraces logic fundamentally. The framework was developed, as a web-based SCADA application, using Python on the server side and JavaScript together with HTML on the client side.

The objective of the current study is to examine the role of Industry 4.0 in supply chain sustainability (SCS). To examine the effect of Industry 4.0 on SCS, the big data technology is considered. As the supply chain process requires a significant data handling system among the companies, however, companies are lacking in this area. Therefore, the relationship between data storage, data transformation, data utilization, order management and SCS were examined. Data was collected from the rubber industry. For the purpose of data collection, questionnaires were used, and data were collected from the rubber companies of Indonesia. Results of this study shows that Industry 4.0 has a vital role in SCS. Implementation of Industry 4.0 among the rubber companies shows a positive effect on SCS. Particularly, the applications of big data technology have a vital role in order management and SCS. Big data technology has a significant positive effect on SCS. Big data technology has a positive role to promote order management which further influences positively on SCS.

One of the main success drivers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the integration of information technology and industry, which encourages innovation through collaboration between industry and academia. As a result, fostering innovative behaviour among undergraduates is essential for success in higher education throughout this revolution. The purpose of this study is to examine the direct effects of capability (leadership, technological literacy, interaction, knowledge sharing, and collaboration) on innovative behaviour and the indirect effect of knowledge integration's mediating role. Data from 3,230 undergraduates was collected and analysed. The provided hypotheses were validated using structural equation modelling, which demonstrated that capability significantly influenced the success of adopting innovative behaviour. Furthermore, we observed that knowledge sharing was the most powerful predictor. We also discovered that the intervening knowledge integration had an indirect effect, indicating the presence of a relationship between capability and innovative behaviour through this variable. When the direct and indirect effects were evaluated, the direct effect was substantially stronger than the indirect effect. The study's practical implications should focus strongly on promoting innovative behaviour and knowledge integration in the process of establishing appropriate educational programmes for universities. Furthermore, universities should develop strategies to encourage undergraduate students to share their knowledge and abilities with others since this improves performance and increases awareness of new prospects for innovation. In future research, we should include more educational institutions in our study, such as high schools, technical schools, and graduate students.

Automation 4.0 comprises the latest technologies that enhance classic automation to communicate with machines in a connected manner and to enable more flexible and more intelligent automation in smart factories. Industry 4.0 has become a global trend over the past ten years to combine the benefits of automation with the needs for flexible production. This trend has reached, in addition to industrialized countries, also newly industrialized countries like Thailand, with the aim to strengthen the global competitiveness. In the ETAT project, partners from Europe as well as Thailand combine their competences to build up a network of so-called Smart Labs around Bangkok area and thus take an important step towards Automation 4.0 in Thailand. Using Thailand as an example, this work shows how industrially emerging countries can sustainably strengthen their qualification with regard to Automation 4.0 by setting up such networks of education and training centers. In addition to explaining the general architecture of the network, the specific characteristics of all six established ETAT Smart Labs are presented and discussed.

Prioritizing the Factors Affecting the Application of Industry 4.0 Technology in Electrical Appliance Manufacturing using a Fuzzy Analytical Network Process Approach
The fourth industrial revolution is a technological advancement that is posing new challenges in manufacturing and services. Industries must adopt innovations to create value-added for their products and services to gain a competitive advantage and increase production efficiency. Therefore, this research aims to study the factors that influence the application of Industry 4.0 technology for managing electrical appliance production by focusing on five major factors: the internet of things, cloud manufacturing, big data analytics, additive manufacturing, and cyber-physical systems, which can be further subdivided into 23 sub-factors. The fuzzy analytic network process (FANP) technique is used to prioritize the factors to develop criteria for selecting appropriate applications of Industry 4.0 technology in manufacturing. Besides, a questionnaire based on the FANP approach is used to collect data from 82 electrical appliance manufacturers to calculate the weight of each factor. Consequently, the Internet of Things is ranked first, followed by big data analytics and additive manufacturing. While the results have indicated the importance of sub-factors as data-driven, data collection, tracking, monitoring, and automation, respectively. The benefit of this research is that manufacturers of electrical appliances can use this research as a criterion for implementing Industry 4.0 technology for long-term effectiveness

The fourth industrial revolution as known as Industry 4.0 becomes a big part of the digitized economy in the 21st century. Industry 4.0 considerably drives the entire supply chain through digital infrastructures and significantly changes work systems. There are many new jobs and work opportunities available for workers with different skill levels due to society and technological changes. Understanding user needs and new technologies is a key factor for the design and development of products and systems where human exists. It is to ensure that the operation and maintenance of such systems are compatible with human abilities and limitations. The purposes of this paper are to explore theoretical and empirical concepts of Industry 4.0 influencing the design of work systems and present factors affecting human factors/ergonomics design in terms of physical, cognitive and organizational perspectives.
