Item type:Publication, A new checklist of lichenized fungi occurring in Thailand(2017-06-09) ;Buaruang, Kawinnat ;Boonpragob, Kansri ;Mongkolsuk, Pachara ;Sangvichien, EkVongshewarat, KajohnsakA new revised checklist of lichenized fungi in Thailand is presented, including 1,292 species. Recent work on the taxonomy of these organisms in Thailand resulted in an enormous increase in our knowledge of the lichen biota of the country - the current checklist includes more than twice as many species as the previous catalogue published 15 years ago - and phylogenetic studies resulted in numerous changes in the generic classification of lichenized fungi. Hence, a new checklist is here presented summarizing the current knowledge of lichens in Thailand. Six new records are reported, viz. Acanthothecis salazinica, Bactrospora metabola, Buellia parastata, Diploschistes cinereocaesius, Rolfidium coccocarpioides, and Trapelia placodioides. Five previously recorded species, namely Lecanora carpinea, Platismatia glauca, P. lacunosa, P. tuckermanii and Roccella phycopsis are shown to be based on misidentifications and are excluded from the checklist. Three new combinations of species previously placed in Pertusaria to Lepra are proposed: L. bulolensis (A.W.Archer, Elix & Streimann) Schmitt & Lumbsch, L. patellifera (A.W.Archer) Schmitt & Lumbsch, and L. subventosa (Malme) Schmitt & Lumbsch. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Diversity of entomopathogenic fungi in rainforests of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand(2008-05-31) ;Aung, O. M. ;Soytong, K.Hyde, K. D.A survey of entomopathogenic fungi was carried out in both conserved and disturbed rainforests and agricultural habitats in Chiang Mai Province. Dead insects, other arthropods, and soil samples were collected from 2005 to 2006 during the rainy seasons. Thirty-four entomogenous taxa belonging to 15 genera were encountered. Entomopathogenic fungi were dominated by Ophiocordyceps myrmecophila (22.6%) and O. unilateralis (13.8%) on ants. Species diversity on Homoptera was highest, followed by Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera. Highest species diversity was found in disturbed rainforests, followed by conserved rainforests and agricultural habitats. Cordyceps and Ophiocordyceps species contributed 74.7% of total taxa in conserved rainforests, 61.3% in disturbed forests but only 1.6% in agricultural habitats. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Understanding microfungal diversity - A critique(2007-12-01) ;Hyde, Kevin D.Soytong, KasemThis paper reviews recent advances in understanding microfungal diversity. It questions the large amounts of funding given to molecular phylogenetics despite the fact that we barely know more than a small percentage of the global fungi. It also questions the practice of sequencing fungal strains from culture collections, as they may be wrongly identified and usually lack any herbarium specimens to check characters against. The need for epitypification with living specimens is vindicated. Host fungi relationships have been shown to be important to our knowledge of fungal numbers and research on fungi on various hosts are outlined. Data on the fungi from extreme environments, endophytes and aquatic fungi have advanced the knowledge of fungal diversity, while recommendations that funding bodies should fund basic research are expressed. © 2007 Adac.
