Item type:Publication, Optimization of 3D SLAM and Localization for Quadruped Robot Dogs Using Autoencoder-based Techniques(2025-01-01) ;Thamrongveerachart, Chawapon ;Thepsit, Thitipong ;Ningnoi, PaphopThis paper presents an optimized 3D SLAM and localization framework for quadruped robot dogs using a custom autoencoder-based point cloud compression technique. Our approach combines denoising, voxelization, self-attention, and PointNet modules to reduce the size of the point cloud by more than 80% while removing outliers and maintaining structural clarity. We use a 3D laser-scan matcher for localization, which combines onboard odometry from the Unitree Go2 quadruped robot with LiDAR odometry from a Livox Mid-360 sensor. Our approach maintains accurate pose estimation and considerably reduces processing time by working directly on compressed point clouds. Comparative tests show that the system is appropriate for real-time applications in unstructured contexts due to its enhanced map clarity and decreased localization delay. The proposed framework offers an effective and computationally efficient solution for deploying 3D SLAM in agile legged robots operating in dynamic or hazardous settings. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Automatic localization of optic disc in fundus image using iterative background removal(2019-07-01); Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is leading to cause of blood clot stimulating the formation of abnormal new blood vessels. hemorrhage and protein secretion from blood vessels to retinal tissue. The retinal damage causes the loss of sight thus the localization of Optic Disc is necessary for analysis of the abnormal retinal image. However, the data located at the Optic Disc image are similar to Hard Exudates in the retinal image. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to detect Optic Disc using the technique of background removal. The principle of image processing is also applied for the retinal image. The image data from Fundus camera are recorded in RGB color model separated into 3 channels: Red, green and blue channel. The data of all channels are evaluated by the preprocessing algorithm to make a more clear appearance of Optic Disc. Subsequently, the preprocessing image is analyzed by iterative background removal using entropy evaluation of the image data. Finally., the variance analysis of data intensity is performed in both the horizontal and vertical axis to determine the localization and size of Optic Disc. The result shows that the accuracy of localization and size of Optic Disc is approximately 98%. It indicates that this method is useful for retinal image analysis of diabetic retinopathy.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Soft-clustering technique for fingerprint-based localization(2018-01-01); In this paper, the soft-clustering algorithm for the fingerprint-based localization technique is proposed. In an indoor environment, the fingerprint-based localization technique is usually employed since it can deal with signal fluctuation. Its basic principle is to find the target location by comparing its signal parameters with a previously recorded database of knownlocation- signal parameters. Here, the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) provided by the wireless sensor network (WSN) is used as the signal parameter. The high accuracy of location estimation requires a very fine spatial resolution of the database, corresponding to the time consumed for pattern matching. To reduce the calculation time, clustering can be applied because it can reduce the database size by grouping similar data in the same cluster. The accuracy of the algorithm to cluster the target location and fingerprint locations is the main concern. The result shows that the clustering technique used can successfully cluster the target sensing node into an appropriate cluster. This implies that, by using soft clustering with the fingerprint technique, the target location can be estimated faster than by using classical fingerprint techniques since the target location can be estimated within a small set of fingerprints in the cluster, not with all fingerprints in the database.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, In-building navigation system using a camera(2014-01-01)A top-view map of building floor is still used nowadays by a visitor for in-building navigation. Its practicality heavily relies on the user's skill in matching a current position on the map. When the map is installed at a fixed position, not held in hand, the position of the map itself can be marked in the map, allowing the user to know the current position. Searching for the map itself, however, is still a necessary task. An orientation of the user is another issue of this traditional approach. It can be solved by having one more map point matched with the corresponding physical position on the floor. People with a good sense of direction have no difficulties with this conventional in-building navigation, but neither do the others. This paper uses the PTAM (parallel tracking and mapping - one type of visual simultaneous localization and mapping, SLAM) as a base system in which a camera is the only sensor. Two map points and their corresponding real position are used for registration of the camera pose acquired from PTAM with the top-view map coordinates. The top-view map of current floor is the only thing obtained in advance. Experimental results show that the proposed monocular navigation system can be used to navigate in the building in real-time, which helps the user correctly decide the route to the destination, similar to a GPS system used for the vehicle navigation. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Comparison between innovative approaches of RFID based localization using fingerprinting techniques for outdoor and indoor environments(2010-05-24) ;Jingwangsa, Thidarat ;Soonjun, SuwatchaiChemtanomwong, PanaratIn this paper, two novel localization algorithms using a fingerprint technique are proposed. The performance evaluation of these algorithms is compared by calculating the location estimation error. The feasibility for indoor and outdoor applications is investigated. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) System is utilized by the reader being the localized target. The passive tags are chosen as reference tags. The basic principle of the fingerprint technique is to find the target location by comparing its signal (or information) pattern to a beforehand recorded database of known location data. Consequently, there are two main steps for estimating the target location: the detected tags, in the first place, discovered by the reader at each fingerprint location are stored in the database and called a fingerprint. The reader location, in the second place, can be estimated by using two proposed methods. The performance of each method is verified by experiment data. The best results of location estimation error among one another for outdoor environment is less than 38 em and for indoor environment is less than 35 em, Furthermore, the investigation found that proposed methods can be used in the real applications for both indoor and outdoor environment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, RFID based localization techniques for indoor environment(2010-05-24) ;Pathanawongthum, NichapatIn this paper, the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is used for indoor localization (i.e. location estimation). The location of a RFID reader is estimated based on the known locations of the RFID tags attached to the ceiling with 60 cm separation. Two arranged pattern of tags are considered. One is a square arranged pattern and another one is a triangle arranged pattern. Then, two simple location estimation methods are employed. The basic principle of location estimation for both methods is based on the average of the locations of detected tags observed by the reader. For the first estimation method, only maximum and minimum coordinates of detected tag are average. But for the second estimation method, all coordinates of detected tag are average. The effectiveness of tag arranged pattern and the location estimation methods is evaluated by the indoor experiment data. The results of the location estimated by both methods are compared. Also, the results of location estimation using the square and triangle arranged patterns are also shown. It is illustrated that the triangle arranged patterns gives better results than the square pattern in some certain. Moreover, the location estimations error for all observed locations for both methods are less than 30 cm. Furthermore, the average of the location estimation error for both methods is less than 15 cm. This is satisfied and applicable for some indoor applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A position tracking experiment of mobile robot with Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)(2010-01-01); Chaiyarat, ChutchaiCurrently, a position tracking of mobile robot becomes increasingly important. It can be not only used to track the moving path of mobile robot for searching and identifying its current position, but also to support the operation control of mobile robot remotely. The challenge in position tracking of mobile robot is to find its location related to environment. There are several tracking techniques using x, y coordinate and heading direction to locate the position in global coordinate system. However, these techniques lack the position information in z dimension. This paper proposes the method to track the position of mobile robot by using the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that can provide the x, y and z coordination. The experiments were set in this work to verify the results of IMU signal while tracking the position of mobile robot. The results express some limitation characteristics of low-cost IMU sensor to provide accurate information. Therefore, some methodology is required to improve the accuracy of tracking position as suggested in the future work. ©ICROS.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Signal subspace interpolation from discrete measurement samples In constructing a database for location fingerprint technique(2009-01-01); ;Takada, Jun IchiTsuji, HiroyukiIn this paper, a method of the signal subspace interpolation to constructing a continuous fingerprint database for radio localization is proposed. When using the fingerprint technique, enhancing the accuracy of location estimation requires very fine spatial resolution of the database, which entails much time in collecting the data to build up the database. Interpolated signal subspace is presented to achieve a fine spatial resolution of the fingerprint database. The angle of arrival (AOA) and the measured signal subspace at known locations are needed to obtain the interpolated signal subspaces. The effectiveness of this method is verified by an outdoor experiment and the estimated location using this method was compared with those using the geometrically calculated fingerprint and the measured signal subspace fingerprint techniques.
