    The luminescent powders from rare-earth ions doped oxides have been successfully used for latent fingerprint detection due to high efficiency, high contrast and low background interface. The Gd<inf>2</inf>MoB<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>:Eu3+ phosphors with varying compositions of Eu3+ions were synthesized by solid state reaction method. These phosphors were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and decay curves studies. Multiphoton relaxation decay rate and coupling strength was evaluated using phonon side band spectrum showing 0.4 mol% doped samples show less non radiative decay rate. The 0.40 mol% of Eu3+ ion concentration doped in the Gd<inf>2</inf>MoB<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf> host lattice show highest photoluminescence emission intensity at 613 nm, in orange red region, monitored at 394 nm excitation. The Gd<inf>2</inf>MoB<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>:Eu3+ phosphors samples were optimized to 900 °C sintering temperature and optimum milling time at 3 min in the present work. The latent fingerprints detection that developed from Gd<inf>2</inf>MoB<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>:Eu3+ phosphors in this work exhibited clearly ridge characteristics under UV illumination. The results revealed thatGd<inf>2</inf>MoB<inf>2</inf>O<inf>9</inf>:Eu3+ phosphors are potential practical forensic science applications.

    A design of smart biometric fingerprint key storage cabinet based on internet of things (IoT) is presented as a case study of machine - basic technical workshop at Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTS). A key storage cabinet in the box has been designed by circular slot to keep 20 keys and the maximum is for 20 machineries. The students can take a key by themselves by using a fingerprint scanning to register the database. Moreover, name, surname, levels of user, time and machinery number, etc can be saved to a database and it has to access by using password with administrator logging-in only. The proposed scheme can find a missed key machinery number and it has two speakers for a guiding voice. All keys are conveniently borrowed and returned by students. The administrator's mobile phone will be received several data from the database via messages in Line application.

    Moisture effect of fingerprint using total internal reflection digital in-line holography
    (2014-01-01)
    Plaipichit, Suwan
    ;
    Total internal reflection (TIR) is normally important in an optical fingerprint scanner. The moisture effect in a fingerprint scanner based on TIR has been explored by using digital in-line holography (DIH). First, the reflection and the transmission technique set up for DIH have been explored by using a positive resolution test target with a line width of 200 μm. From experimental results, the reconstructed image of the reflected DIH is perfect as the image of the transmitted DIH. Due to the advantage for opaque object imaging of the reflected DIH, reflected DIH based on TIR has been selected to investigate the moisture effect of the fingerprint. Fingerprints with moistures of 39%, 54%, 69%, and a soaked finger have been observed. A laser diode of 635 nm and a complementary metal oxide semiconductor camera were used in all of the experimental setups in this research. The reconstructed image of the fingerprint gives a sharper image than the directed recorded image. The fingerprint with higher moisture provided a darker fingerprint image, while the optimum amount of moisture that gives the most complete finger pattern is 54%. © 2014 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.

    In this paper, we have proposed the novel prototype of the portable fingerprint scanner. Using this method, the low coherence digital holography technique has been used to verify fingerprints. In our experiment, the Michelson's interferometer has been setup first for determining the coherence length of a laser diode with wave length of 635 nm. In our model, the light transmission and reflection properties of the glass slide have been applied. Then, the glass slide has been used as a beam splitter for separating the light to two beams, which are the reference beam and fingerprint image bearing beam. The results show fingerprint pattern, which are reconstructed with numerical method. © 2013 SPIE.
