Item type:Publication, Experiment of Dielectric Frequency Response for Aged ZnO Surge Arrester(2025-01-01) ;Aiamrungruang, Phitthaya ;Methavithit, Winai; ;Chuayin, ChaitawatZinck, MatthieuCondition-based monitoring of surge arresters has gained increasing attention in modern power system asset management, especially for medium-voltage equipment. This paper presents an investigation into the dielectric frequency response (DFR) analysis technique as a diagnostic method to evaluate aging and unhealthy conditions in 21-kV metal oxide surge arresters (MOSA). Four types of simulated defects, excessive number of lightning current stress, cracking, moisture ingress, and tracking, were introduced to represent common field failures. The DFR technique enables frequencydomain interpretation of dielectric properties, providing insight into insulation behavior over a wide frequency range. The test results show a significant variation in capacitance and dissipation factor corresponding to different defect types. Among these, moisture ingress exhibited the most severe deterioration. The findings suggest that DFR is a viable offline diagnostic method that can support preventive maintenance strategies for high-voltage surge arresters. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Insulation Diagnosis of Distribution Class Metal Oxide Surge Arrester Using Polarization and Depolarization Techniques(2022-01-01) ;Turatham, S.; ;Maneeroj, S. ;Methavithit, W.Zinck, M.Imperfection of metal oxide surge arrester (MOSA) becomes a factor that affects the power supply quality on medium and high voltage networks. Understanding the coordination of MOSA insulation systems helps describe their failure. This paper presents the analysis of the dielectric response of imperfect MOSA from the factory using polarization and depolarization techniques. The experiments were taken on 21 kV and 24 kV MOSA samples which were validated by testing topics, i.e., the reference voltage, voltage-current characteristic curves, and partial discharge (PD). Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) was measured after 21 kV MOSA samples had taken PD testing and 24 kV MOSA samples had taken reference voltage testing. Resistivity, capacitance, and polarization index were interpreted for insulation diagnosis. The importance of non-destructive electrical diagnostics based on polarization methods is validated by PDC test results and is highlighted in detail in this paper. Finally, the results of different PDC were compared and discussed.
