Item type:Publication, Insecticidal activity of Citrus aurantium and Eucalyptus globulus essential oils and their major constituents against nymphs and adults of Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer(2023-07-01); Sittichok, S.The results showed that every tested EO and its constituents exhibited a higher pediculocidal activity against nymphs and adults of P. humanus capitis than 25% (w/v) benzyl benzoate did. In particular, 5% 1,8-cineole exhibited the highest insecticidal effects against P. humanus capitis nymphs and adults with 100% mortality rate at 1 min with an LT<inf>50</inf> of 0.2 min and an LC<inf>50</inf> of 0.7%. The other EO formulations provided a mortality rate ranging from 0-96.0% and an LT<inf>50</inf> ranging 0.3-315.9 min against nymphs. Against the adults, the mortality rate ranged from 12.0-96.0% with an LT<inf>50</inf> ranging from 1.2-314.5 min. Our data showed that 1,8-cineole has a great potential to control head lice populations and should be further developed into a safe and effective pediculicide. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Head lice prevalence in suburban Bangkok, Thailand, after the COVID-19 pandemic and herbal shampoo treatment(2026-01-01) ;Sinthusiri, J. ;Sittichok, S.; The prevalence of pediculosis among 3,461 girls from 10 government kindergartens and primary schools in Ladkrabang district was 48.1% in the 1<sup>st</sup> semester (May-September 2022) and 44.6% in the 2<sup>nd</sup> semester (November 2022-March 2023), higher among primary school girls, at 51.8-55.4%, than in kindergarteners, at 30.2-33.1%. Over 80% of the infested girls came from a low-income family (<3,000 USD per year). The Zingiberaceae essential oil and shampoo treatments were highly effective with 100% cure rate for every infested girl after the 2<sup>nd</sup> treatment (on Day 10, after the 1<sup>st</sup> treatment on Day 1). Effective strategies for reducing head lice prevalence are improved living standards and head lice eradication by treatments with effective natural pediculicides and improved head lice educational program. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of new herbal shampoos from garcinia dulcis kurz, citrus aurantium l. and eucalyptus globulus labill as pediculicides for head lice (Pediculus humans capitis) control(2018-07-01) ;Sittichok, S.Currently, synthetic chemical pediculicides have lost their efficacy due to worldwide increased resistance of head lice to them. Therefore, safe, natural product alternatives are in dire need. This study investigated the efficacy of an herbal shampoo made from Garcinia dulcis (Roxb.) added with either Citrus aurantium EO or Eucalyptus globulus EO against head lice in both in vitro and in vivo tests. In vitro experiment used a filter paper contact method to evaluate the pediculicidal activity of the shampoo at 0.002, 0.003 and 0.006 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> doses (per unit area of petri dish plate) on nymphs and adults of head lice. In vivo trial, the infested children were treated with the shampoo. The results showed either cured or not cured of pediculosis. The main results showed LC50 values against nymphs for G. dulcis + C. aurantium EO shampoo and G. dulcis + E. globulus EO shampoo were 0.00001 and 0.00004 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> , respectively. Those actively against the adults which were 0.7 and 0.9 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> , respectively. In vivo test revealed that G. dulcis + C. aurantium EO shampoo and G. dulcis + E. globulus EO shampoo were the most effective pediculicide, showing 100% cure rate after the 2nd application, much more effective than the tested chemical pediculicide. It concluded that these shampoos can be highly affected pediculicide alternatives and safe for treating humans. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The star anise nanoemulsion was determined optimum efficacy, with a 1% concentration resulting in the highest knockdown and mortality rate of 100%. Its KT<inf>50</inf> and mortality effective values were 28 min and 36 times, respectively. Furthermore, the adult stage of houseflies is found to be susceptible to star anise nanoemulsion. In contrast, cypermethrin was less toxic to it, with a high KT<inf>50</inf> and resistance to adult houseflies. Consequently, the star anise nanoemulsion could be developed into an efficient and safe environment for controlling housefly populations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Plant essential oils, trans-anethole and eugenol, for housefly knockdown and mortality(2025-03-01) ;Sittichok, S.; ;Sinthusiri, J.; Thongsaiklaing, T.The knockdown and mortality of some compounds from natural oils (trans-anethole, eugenol and a combination of trans-anethole and eugenol) against adult houseflies (Musca domestica) compared with cypermethrin was investigated. The knockdown and mortalities were highest at 100% of 1% trans-anethole with KT50= 31 min and LT50 = 31 min. The mortality index of trans-anethole was 82.1 times that of cypermethrin. In contrast, 1% eugenol had knockdown and mortality was 36% and 0.5% trans-anethole + 0.5% eugenol had knockdown and mortality of 68%, with mortality indexes of 1.6 and 3.2 times versus cypermethrin. The trans-anethole high toxicity and low residue made it a superior control for houseflies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of Thai herbal shampoos from averrhoa carambola L., Hibiscus sabdariffa L. and Passiflora edulis Sims. for controlling head lice, pediculus humanus capitis (De Geer)(2018-09-01) ;Sittichok, S. ;Chantawee, A.Pediculosis is an infestation of the scalp caused by head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis (De Geer), which affects important public health in schoolchildren. Nowadays, head lice resistant to chemical pediculicide are increasing, thus alternative products from herbal shampoos or herbal cream are needed for head lice control. This study aimed to determine the efficacies of Thai herbal shampoos made from fruits of Averrhoa carambola L. (A. carambola), Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (H. sabdariffa) and Passiflora edulis Sims. (P. edulis) on mortality of head lice, at 1, 5 and 10 ml/plate by filter paper contact bioassay in vitro test and in vivo test, several infested children were treated with each shampoo and make a comparison between them and a chemical shampoo, carbaryl, by in vitro and in vivo tests. Every treatment was repeated three times. The in vitro results showed that the 5 and 10 ml/plate doses of P. edulis and H. sabdariffa shampoos exhibited the highest efficacy as pediculicide against nymphs with an LC <inf>50</inf> of 0.85 ml/plate and LT <inf>50</inf> between <0.1 to 0.20, and <0.1 to 0.47 min, respectively. LC <inf>50</inf> of P. edulis and H. sabdariffa shampoos against adults were 0.85 and 1.09 ml/plate, respectively, and LT <inf>50</inf> was between <0.1 to 0.83 min. From the in vivo test, P. edulis shampoo was found to be the most effective in controlling head lice with 100% cure rate after the 2nd treatment. It was more effective than carbaryl.In conclusion, P. edulis shampoo is an effective alternative as pediculicide for head lice treatment because it is safe: no side effects on the scalp of the subjects were observed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Adulticidal effect of combinations between Cymbopogon citratus and Eucalyptus globulus essential oils against Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer(2023-07-01); Sittichok, S.The results showed that all head lice adults that were immersed in a combination of 15% C. citratus EO + 15% E. globulus EO, 20% C. citratus EO + 20% E. globulus EO, and 30% C. citratus EO + 30% E. globulus EO for 3 min were destroyed with the highest mortality rate of 100% at 30 min and an LT50 ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 min. However, 0.5% (w/w) permethrin shampoo provided a slightly higher adulticidal activity than all EO formulations in terms of LT50 (0.9 min). According to the LD50 values reported in the literature, C. citratus EO + E. globulus EO can be developed into a safer shampoo for head lice treatment. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Larvicidal efficacy and morphological abnormalities induced by plant essential oils against housefly (Musca domestica L.)(2026-03-01); ;Sittichok, S. ;Moungthipmalai, T.; Thongsaiklaing, M.The results showed that the lowest complete pupation rate was 43.67%, indicating a significant inhibition of normal metamorphosis. Additionally, 56.33% of third-instar larvae were classified as malformed larvae (ML), dying before pupation and exhibiting severe morphological and physiological abnormalities. These findings suggest that the star anise nanoemulsion interferes with key developmental pathways, preventing larvae from reaching the pupal stage. Due to its high effectiveness and plant-based origin, this nanoformulation offers a promising, environmentally friendly alternative to conventional chemical insecticides. It has potential for further development into a natural larvicidal agent for use in integrated pest management (IPM) strategies targeting housefly populations. Future research should explore the underlying mechanisms of action and assess the efficacy and safety of this nanoemulsion under real-world conditions to support its application in sustainable vector control. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of plant essential oils for repelling against American cockroach adults (Periplaneta americana L.)(2025-01-01); ; ;Arhamad-Armeen, N. ;Sittichok, S.Jintanasirinurak, S.The combination of four plant essential oils (EOs) from star anise, citronella grass, lemon grass, and cinnamon was evaluated for repelling American cockroaches by the dual-choice method. A combination of star anise + citronella grass had a repellency rate of 95%. In contrast, combinations of star anise + lemon grass and star anise + cinnamon were effective between 73% and 69%, but the synthetic chemical repellent (12% DEET) was less effective at 59%. Therefore, the essential oils formulae had a high potential for effective use and, further, are harmless for healthiness and the environment. Item type:Publication, Repellency of six plant essential oils against Periplaneta americana L. And Blattella germanica L.(2021-09-01) ;Takawirapat, W. ;Sittichok, S.Six essential oils (EOs) from Cinnamomum cassia, Citrus sinensis, Mentha piperita, Syzygium aromaticum, Zingiber cussumunar, and Zingiber officinale at 10% in soybean oil were evaluated for their repellent activities against Periplaneta americana L. and Blattella germanica L. adults and compared to that of naphthalene (1 g of sublimating ground powder), a common insect repellent. All six EOs exhibited a significantly higher effective repellency against B. germanica than against P. americana. Among all EOs tested, C. cassia EO exhibited the highest repellent activity against adult B. germanica (90.0%) and adult P. americana (76.0%). Naphthalene, on the other hand, showed 88% repellency against B. germanica and 98% against P. americana. It can repel P. americana better but repel B. germanica worse than C. cassia EO. C. cassia EO has a good potential to be developed into an effective, and safe insect repellent for controlling P. americana and B. germanica populations.
