Item type:Publication, Design and Testing of Low Loss Distribution Transformer for Non-Linear Loading Current(2018-07-02) ;Tandeaw, P.; Jirasuwankul, N.Distribution transformers are typically designed to operate under linear loading current. Nowadays, an emerging of modern electric loads that equipped with power conversion devices, it is inevitable that, the transformers are subjected to supply non-linear current. Those are resulting in a considerable increment of heat loss, temperature rising and shortening of insulation lifespan. In case of planning for retrofit or new utility system design, replacing conventional transformer with the low loss one is introduced. This paper therefore proposes a design and testing of low loss transformer using K-Factor and modified winding eddy current loss (WEC). Test results show that efficiency and temperature rise of the new design outperforms conventional one under standard testing of linear and non-linear loads. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A lab-scale heliostat positioning control using fuzzy logic based stepper motor drive with micro step and multi-frequency mode(2017-08-23) ;Jirasuwankul, N.This paper proposes positioning control technique for a lab-scale heliostat by application of hybrid stepper motors and fuzzy logic controllers. Steady state tracking error has been kept minimal by micro step drive together with speed control by multi stepping rate adjustment. By supportive video streaming device and image processing, a reflected image of illuminant area on the target is captured and analyzed, an obtaining position error in azimuth and altitude angles are real-time fed to the fuzzy controllers. As a result, the closed loop tracking is formulated and steady state error can then be minimized. Simulation and experimental results confirm the proposed technique. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of Demand Fluctuation and Mitigation Strategy in Low Voltage EV Charging Station by Battery Energy Storage System(2021-01-01) ;Jirasuwankul, Nirudh; In this paper, the effects of fluctuating demand on a low voltage electric utility system equipped with electric vehicular charging station have been studied and mitigation strategy has been proposed. By applying Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and demand management (DMM), the stored electric energy during an off-peak period is controlled to supply the spiky demand during the EV charging period. Employing different approaches of discharging control, the BESS can response and shape the peaky demand into the smoothed one with an elevated load factor. Therefore, the result is that energy cost of EV charging has been reduced by cutting the demand charge during the on-peak period and the power quality of the system has also been improved. These findings are confirmed and illustrated by simulation results. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Fault detection and protection of three-phase induction motor using Eigen based analysis(2016-10-24) ;Stapornirun, Somsak ;Tangsiriworakul, ChanwitThis research presents the design and the implementation of a system for detecting and preventing external faults of 3 phase induction motor using Eigen based analysis, in order to prevent faults in various pattern and reduce the complexity of data processing. The 6 inputs are composed of three-phase voltage and current signals for the induction motor. These inputs will be calculated for the root mean square values before the Eigen based analysis and Euclidean Distance calculation. These values are comparable to which of the normal condition of the induction motor, in order to identify the faults in 6 conditions of Single Phase, Over Voltage, Under Voltage, Over Load, Unbalance Voltage and Locked Rotor. The software is designed by MATLAB program connecting with the DAQ card for controlling the 6 signal inputs receiving and sending an output signal to control power supply relay to the induction motor. After the experiment under the various loading conditions was conducted, the system can detect and prevent the external faults in 6 conditions satisfactorily. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Mathematical Modeling of Energy Efficiency in Thai Sugar Mills: a Case Study of Different Production Scales from Three Mills(2025-01-01) ;Jirasuwankul, NirudhEnergy efficiency in energy-intensive industry is the crucial issue on reduction of energy usage that affects energy cost and carbon emissions. One of the promised approaches in decreasing energy consumption is practicing energy efficiency improvement. In order to attain such conditions, energy efficiency models of the process must have to be known as a primary step by gathering data and relevant parameters to energy consumption throughout the production process. In this paper, a case study of mathematical modeling of energy efficiency of three different production scales from three sugar mills in Thailand is proposed. By appropriate applying mathematical models to the given data collection, the retrieval models of energy consumption and Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) had been obtained with a certain accuracy and precise prediction during a highly non-linear data range. The results illustrated that electrical and thermal processes of those three sugar mills have similar energy consumption and specific energy consumption models, whereas the retrieved energy consumption models are different to the specific ones respectively. The key finding results in this study is useful for energy management in sugar production industry in two levels. The first is production planning with minimum energy cost by applying the SEC models corresponding to thermal or electrical energy related process. The second is that the SEC models can locate the most-significant energy use and opportunity to technical improvement or retrofitting the process. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A low cost prototype for testing stator winding shorted turns in 3-phase induction motors(2005-12-01); ;Senavongse, Wongwit; Tangsiriworakul, ChanwitThis paper presents a prototype of stator winding shorted turns detector for three-phase induction motors. The focus condition is turn-to-turn short circuit, because this condition is the initial problem. The diagnosis technique is detectable from the voltage sum of the three instantaneous line to star-point voltage. In the testing, the supply is sinusoidal waveform and the motor must be star connected with floating neutral. Before diagnosis, this instrument will also determine the level of supply voltage imbalance, if it is over the limit, the test instrument will not diagnose shorted turns. From experimental results, 3-hp and 5-hp induction motors were used for testing this equipment which is capable of accurately identifying percentage of stator winding shorted turns. © 2005 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Investigation of modulation index on iron losses in soft magnetic materials supplied by DMPWM inverter(2009-12-01) ;Tangsiriworakul, ChanwitThis paper studies iron losses and acoustic noise in soft magnetic materials supplied by delta-modulated PWM inverter (DMPWM). In the experiment, we use 0.5 mm-thick and determine equal peak fundamental flux density on each test procedure, with 0.3-0.9 modulation index and 1-5 kHz inverter switching frequencies. The results show that the difference of iron losses and acoustic noise depend on modulation index and switching frequency. Additionally, the results are useful for the criteria of designing standard inverter for low power losses.
