Item type:Publication, Implementation of switched-current FIR filter using distributed arithmetic technique: Exploitation of digital concept in analogue domain(2004-12-01); ;Worapishet, Apisak ;Chanyavilas, SompopDejhan, KobchaiRecently, a distributed arithmetic (DA) technique has been employed in digital implementation of finite impulse response (FIR) filters, since it can significantly reduce hardware resources at the cost of higher clock frequency. In this paper, we show that the concept of DA can be efficiently exploited in an analogue domain. Specifically, a switched-current (SI) FIR filter is realized based upon the concept of DA. Besides, it is revealed that the DA SI FIR filter offers extended maximum achievable resolution normally dictated by transistor matching. The technique also helps reduce silicon area and power requirements. Two examples of FIR filter design according to WCDMA and cdma2000 specifications are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the novel technique. Simulation results are shown to confirm the circuit functions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A solar-powered battery charger with neural network maximum power point tracking implemented on a low-cost PIC-microcontroller(2005-01-01) ;Petchjatuporn, Panom; ;Ngamkham, Wannaya ;Kiranon, WiwatKhaehintung, NoppadolThis paper presents the development of a maximum power point tracking algorithm using an artificial neural network for a solar power system. By applying a three layers neural network and some simple activation functions, the maximum power point of a solar array can be efficiently tracked. The tracking algorithm integrated with a solar-powered battery charging system has been successfully implemented on a low-cost PIC16F876 RISC-microcontroller without external sensor unit requirement. The experimental results with a commercial solar array show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional controller in terms of tracking speed and mitigation of fluctuation output power in steady state operation. The overall system efficiency is well above 90%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Grid-connected photovoltaic system with maximum power point tracking using self-organizing fuzzy logic controller(2005-01-01) ;Khaehintung, Noppadol; This paper presents the design of a controller for the maximum power point tracking of a grid-connected photovoltaic energy conversion system. A boost converter is used in the system to deliver the output from the solar array to DC-AC inverter, and feed the power into the AC grid. A self-organizing fuzzy logic controller is introduced for the tracking algorithm. The duty ratio for the operation of the boost converter is optimally adjusted in such a way that the maximum power point, which normally varies according to the environment, can be achieved. We demonstrate via the simulation results that our proposed technique outperforms over the conventional fuzzy logic controller in terms of tracking speed and transient response. Furthermore, the algorithm implementation can be done using a look-up table, hence a high-performance, cost-effective real-time maximum power point tracking can be simply realized. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Smart antenna using a combination of D3LS and NCLS algorithms(2012-10-02) ;Nilsuwan, Phichet ;Boonpoonga, Akkarat ;Tagapanij, JukkritThis paper presents a smart antenna system using a combination of nonconventional least square (NCLS) optimization and direct data domain least square (D3LS) for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation and beamforming, respectively. In the proposed system, NCLS optimization is utilized to estimate DOA of incoming signal first. The estimated DOA is then assisted for initial processing of D3LS in beamforming. The performance in term of estimated signal amplitude and estimated DOA of the proposed system is evaluated via simulations. © 2012 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A novel fuzzy logic control technique tuned by particle swarm optimization for maximum power point tracking for a photovoltaic system using a current-mode boost converter with bifurcation control(2010-04-01) ;Khaehintung, Noppadol; This paper presents a novel fuzzy logic control technique tuned by particle swarm optimization (PSO-FLC) for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for a photovoltaic (PV) system. The proposed PV system composes of a current-mode boost converter (CMBC) with bifurcation control. An optimal slope compensation technique is used in the CMBC to keep the system adequately remote from the first bifurcation point in spite of nonlinear characteristics and instabilities of this converter. The proposed PSO technique allows easy and more accurate tuning of FLC compared with the trialand-error based tuning. Consequently, the proposed PSO-FLC method provides faster tracking of maximum power point (MPP) under varying light intensities and temperature conditions. The proposed MPPT technique is simple and particularly suitable for PV system equipped with CMBC Experimental results are shown to confirm superiority of the proposed technique comparing with the conventional PVVC technique and the trial-and-error based tuning FLC. © ICROS, KIEE and Springer 2010. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Beam-switching-assisted CMA initialization for handset adaptive antenna(2007-08-28) ;Boonpoonga, Akkarat; ; This paper presents two initialization schemes: phased array-assisted initialization and switched-beam element phased array-assisted initialization, for a constant modulus algorithm (CMA). Both techniques utilize a beam with maximum received power obtained by beam-switching of array antenna to initial CMA. The techniques can significantly improve convergence properties of CMA, which is employed for weight adjustment of an adaptive antenna system. The architecture of the proposed adaptive antenna system is illustrated to show the low-cost assistance for CMA initialization. Finally, simulation results are shown to evaluate SINR performance of the proposed techniques. ©2007 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Leaf Sensor for Stomata Transpiration Monitoring Using Temperature and Humidity(2018-07-02) ;Pipitsunthonsan, Pronthep ;Sopharat, Jessada; Chongcheawchamnan, MitchaiThis paper presents a leaf sensor which was designed for stomatal transpiration detection. The sensor consists of a thermocouple, a humidity sensor and a programmed microcontroller. The thermocouple measures temperature difference between the leaf and its surrounding atmosphere while relative humidity of the atmosphere was recorded. The sensor design was verified with the standard tool and the image of stomata captured with a high-gain camera lens. From the experimental results, data collected from the developed sensor indicates the stomatal status. This proves the potentiality of the proposed sensor for stomatal transpiration detection. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Single-Frequency Sensor for Thick Rind Fruit Quality Assessment(2025-01-01) ;Leekul, Prapan ;Dao, Hoang Nam; ; A sensor capable of estimating the dielectric properties of the outer and inner materials of a concentric dielectric sphere is essential for assessing the quality of thick rind fruits. This article presents a sensor design that operates at a single frequency and is straightforward. The underlying principle of the sensor involves transmitting a microwave signal to a concentric dielectric sphere with two power levels. The low-power signal yields backscattered waves from the outer sphere, while the high-power signal provides information about backscattered waves from both the outer and inner spheres. The sensor, which operates at a frequency of 10 GHz using cost-effective components, effectively detects defects in spherical-shaped fruits, e.g., mangosteens. The accuracy in classifying translucent mangosteens from normal mangosteens is 92.5%, enabling effective classification of defected fruits.
