Item type:Publication, Cogeneration system for energy saving and CO2 emission reduction: A case study of textile factory(2020-04-30); ;Krittametaporn, T.Lothongkum, A. W.Thailand has many textile factories of which the complete value chain consists of upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. It is well-known that textile manufacturing consumes considerable amount of energy. The textile factory in this case study is located at Bang Poo Industrial Estate in Samut Prakarn province, Thailand. It is categorized as a midstream sector and has been consuming final energy in terms of 87% thermal energy (steam) and 13% electrical energy. The factory had 6 fire-tube steam boilers having capacity of 40 tons steam per hour. The age of the existing boilers was longer than 20 years. Therefore, it was decided to install a cogeneration system to replace the existing boilers for energy saving, safety integrity and CO<inf>2</inf> emission reduction. The gas turbine topping cycle cogeneration system with waste heat recovery was selected due to several advantages such as low energy consumption, high boiler efficiency and high energy efficiency. Considering the energy and environmental issues, the results showed 92% overall efficiency, 19.5% primary energy or natural gas savings, and 38.6% reduction of CO<inf>2</inf> emission when compared to the separated heat and power system. Item type:Publication, Estimation of Power Consumption in Screw Gas Compressor Installed on Natural Gas Power Plant(2025-01-01); ; The knowledge of the precise power consumption of screw gas compressors, which is the highest power requirement when compared with other equipment used in natural gas power plants, can be an indicator of energy efficiency in natural gas power plants and impact the construction cost of the project. This paper proposed a calculation method for the estimated power requirement of the screw gas compressor and verified the calculation model with data from two different natural gas power plants. The verification methodology has been done by comparing the result with the obtained power from the unit during 11 operation scenarios. The result has indicated that the proposed calculation model can achieve an error less than 5% on all of operation scenarios. Thus, the proposed estimation model can be used to simplify the calculation process for the power requirement of a screw gas compressor. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Status and Opportunities of Biogas Power Plants in Thailand and a Case Study(2022-01-01); Lothongkum, Anchaleeporn WaritswatEnergy crisis and environmental pollution problems have drawn attention to increase renewable energy resource utilization and replace fossil fuels worldwide. For several decades, Thailand relies on fossil fuels in electricity generation and so on. The Ministry of Energy, Thailand complied the Development of Energy Plans to Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint (TIEB) in 2020 for sustainable energy development in addition to overcome environmental problems. This case study shows energy recovery from wastes for self-sustain biogas power plants from chicken meat production. The onsite biogas power plant targets at a capacity of 1.5 MW at 24 h for every workday. The chicken manure can yield a biogas output of 128–134 m<sup>3</sup>/ton with the rate of electricity per biogas at 2.10 kWh/m<sup>3</sup>. Based on the project period for 15 years, the payback period, net present value (NPV), and internal rate of return (IRR) are 8.2 years, about 1,705,000 USD, and 8.86%, respectively. In general, the crucial success factor of biogas power plant installation mainly goes to concrete collaboration among the government and private sectors.
