Item type:Publication, Partial Discharge Phenomena in Power Capacitor Unit Insulation Under Harmonic Resonance Effects(2020-01-01) ;Boonseng, Chongrag ;Boonseng, Rapeepornpat ;Boonsaner, Nutthaphan; Apiratikul, PromsakThe capacitor in the electrical system for power factor correction is always damaged when under voltage and current waveforms are distorted. There was a test found that the electrical insulation was damaged and destroyed. In order to learn this damage mechanism it requires a non-destructive inspection method. The partial discharge (PD) testing is a method that can detect deterioration and a defect in the electrical insulating material that is not visible. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of harmonic resonance on power capacitor unit insulation. High voltage capacitor units consist of parallel and series connected elements. The rating of element of capacitor units applied in the power system is 6.67 kVAR/Phase, 400 V. Series resonance can lead to high voltage distortion levels at a low voltage side of transformer resulting in high harmonic current in the element of capacitors. The inspection and element of capacitor unit test are used to obtain power system resonance, a standard operating procedure, testing and measurement between phase to ground using the partial discharge model MPD 600 OMICRON, dielectric losses and capacitance model CPC 100 OMICRON. Finally, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used. The comparison of results between new element of capacitor and element under harmonic resonance are performed. The results convey that breakdown in insulating of capacitors under harmonic resonance can be used for considering capacitor voltage rating. The failure of insulation an increase in obtained and emphasized by photograph from SEM. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The system comprises a single-phase full-bridge grid converter and a two-phase three-leg voltage source inverter, both controlled using vector control. The grid converter utilizes voltage-oriented control, the inverter is managed through field-oriented control. This approach enhances the electromagnetic torque performance of the two-phase induction generator. The system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, and the simulation results indicate that the generator torque exhibits a smooth and fast transient response. Additionally, the grid current of the system closely approximates a sinusoidal waveform with a near unity power factor. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Grid connected unsymmetrical two-phase induction generator system using time-based unbalanced space vector pwm and adaptive hysteresis band current control(2021-01-01) ;Thodsaporn, Narongchai; Sardyoung, PapolThis paper presents performance analysis of a single-phase grid conneted unsymmetrical two-phase induction generator. A voltage doubler bidirectional AC-DC converter for a grid side allowing regenerative operation is controlled by an adaptiptive band hysteresis current controller in order to improve power quality particulrly a reduction in current ripple. For a machine side, a two-phase three leg voltage source converter with timebased space vector PWM offers unbalanced orthogonal two-phase voltages for variable frequency excitation to enhance performance of the generator compared with balanced ones. Comparative performance analysis between time-based space vector PWM schemes for both balanced and unbalanced two-phase voltages using both simulation and experiment is demonstrated under various operating conditions. The simlation and experimental results are in good agreement. It is found that the unbalanced space vector PWM outperforms balanced one over a wide range of operation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Mathematical Model of Wind Turbine Simulator Based Five Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator Supplying Non-Linear Loads(2023-01-01) ;Meesuk, PeerawatThis paper propose the mathematical model simulation of a wind turbine power generation system using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The 5-phase synchronous permanent magnet generator is a device that converts mechanical energy from wind turbines into electrical energy. The electrical power is passed through a non-linear load as a rectifier using 10 diodes per 5-phase for further conduction through the inverter and grid connection. The simulation results show the voltage output from the generator in all 5 phases, the rotor speed, stator current, and electromagnetic torque. When adjusting the speed according to the characteristics of the wind that is fed to the wind turbine, the rotor speed is adjusted. Stator current, torque and voltage also change. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance Improvement of Vector Control Based Unsymmetrical Two-Phase Induction Generator with Optimum Voltage Compensation(2024-01-01) ;Choorak, Chaiwut; ;Bumroongphuck, ChavapornPrapurt, NuttapongThis paper presents performance improvement with optimum voltage compensation of a vector control based unsymmetrical Two-Phase squirrel cage Induction Generator (TPIG) with closed loop speed control using carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation. Indirect Field-Oriented Control (IFOC) of the induction generator is used to achieve fast response and good accuracy. The proposed system consists of a two stage AC-DC-AC link equipped with bidirectional power flow between the machine and the single-phase grid. The DC link voltage is kept constant at the reference value by using hysteresis current control of the grid side converter resulting in rectification and inversion modes of operation with high-power factor and nearly sinusoidal current waveform. A Carrier-Based Space Vector Modulation (CBSVPWM) technique is used for controlling a two-phase three-leg voltage source converter providing balanced and unbalanced voltages with an optimum value of voltage compensation. The experimental results show that the system performance for unbalanced supplied voltages with the optimum value of the compensation of the machine is better than that for balanced supplied voltages in terms of power transfer to the grid, electromagnetic torque pulsation and speed ripple. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Five-level cascaded multilevel H-Bridge inverter for single-phase PV grid-connected system(2021-05-19) ;Boontua, Sakdawut ;Kongsuk, PrayadThis research presents the applied PO MPPT control technique for controlling real power and reactive power (PQ) of a single-phase five-level H-bridge multilevel inverter for a PV grid-connected system (FHB-MLI for PVGCS) under weak irradiation condition. Perturb and Observe (PO) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique is used in this system to keep dc-link voltage constant for maximum power to be maintained for each module. The proposed controller regulates the actual dc-link voltage independent of each other under imbalance of power irradiation of each PV and varies real power and reactive power with magnitude and power angle of grid-current. The validation of the proposed method is verified by simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK program and promising experiment. Simulation results, with a setup consisting of real power and reactive power processing by weak irradiation condition and two PV modules, indicate that the overall system can operate satisfactorily even in conditions with different irradiation of the modules injecting available maximum power to the grid. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Soft Starting of a Modified Three-Phase Induction Motor with a Single-Phase Synchronous PWM AC Chopper(2025-01-01) ;Bumroongphuck, Chavaporn ;Koodsamrong, RangsanThis paper presents a soft starting method for a modified three-phase induction motor using a single-phase synchronous PWM AC chopper to reduce starting current and electromagnetic torque pulsation. The modified motor functions as a single-phase induction motor due to the lack of a three-phase source and employs an appropriate capacitor. The synchronous single-phase PWM AC chopper provides several benefits over traditional thyristor soft starters, including a linear relationship between fundamental voltage and modulation index, improved voltage control, and lower harmonic currents. A cost-effective microcontroller gradually increases the duty cycle to create PWM signals for soft starting, achieving nearly a 65% reduction in starting current compared to direct online starting. Simulation and experimental results confirm enhanced starting performance, making it suitable for applications such as water and air pumps. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
