Item type:Publication, Design and construction of a three phase of self-exited induction generator(2008-12-01) ;Sawetsakulanond, B. ;Hothongkham, P.This paper proposes the design and construction of three phase, 220/380 V, 3.4/2.0 A, δγ connected, 4 poles, 0.75 kW a self-exited induction generator (SEIG). Analysis of the designed SEIG uses a finite element method. The designed SEIG has been tested and compared with a standard SEIG under operating conditions such as no-load and on-load with pure resistive load. Consideration of capacitance for the SEIG based on equivalent circuit model under steady-state load conditions and a power flow diagram is given. Research results can be guidelines for development of effective wind induction generators for electricity generation. ©2008 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Investigation into harmonic losses in a PWM multilevel cascaded H-bridge inverter fed induction motor(2007-12-01) ;Hothongkham, PrasopchokThis paper presents harmonic loss considerations in a PWM multilevel cascaded H-bridge inverter fed induction motor. A non-sinusoidal waveform or voltage harmonic has influence on efficiency and performance of a drive system. Harmonic voltages depend upon PWM parameters such as modulation index, switching frequency, PWM schemes, and dc voltage levels etc. The comparison of additional losses between a conventional inverter drive and a multilevel cascaded H-Bridge inverter drive is evaluated through MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results. Harmonic loss evaluation under various PWM strategies such as sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM), third harmonic injection pulse width modulation (THPWM) and space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) for multilevel cascaded inverters is given. PWM signals are generated by a dsPIC microprocessor. The harmonic loss calculation is based on frequency dependent loss functions. Moreover experimental results are also given. The results can be guidelines for designing multilevel inverters suitable for induction motor drives. © 2007 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Improvement of slip energy recovery drives with voltage source inverter for a speed control of wound rotor induction motors(2007-12-01) ;Tunyasrirut, Satean ;Ngamwiwit, Jongkol; ;Furuya, TadayoshiYamamoto, YoshiichiThis paper introduces the improvement of slip energy recovery drives with voltage source inverter for a speed control of wound rotor induction motors in order to reduce harmonics of input line current waveforms and improve its power factor. A boost chopper is used to connect the diode rectifier to DC link voltage, which is composed of a capacitor and voltage source inverter type space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). This scheme leads to be able to adjust the speed of the motor by the duty cycle of the chopper. The PI cascade controller is also introduced to control a speed to be constant when the load varies. An overview of the experimental test bench that the results are presented is three-fold. The first is the harmonics of input line current waveforms are reduced, the second power factor of the drive with VSI are improved and the third presented for a design PI controller for control a speed, where step change loading and unloading transients. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A New Modulation Strategy for Unbalanced Two Phase Induction Motor Drives Using a Three-Leg Voltage Source Inverter(2005-09-01) ;Sinthusonthishat, S.This paper proposes a new modulation scheme providing unbalanced output terminal voltages of a standard threeleg voltage source inverter (VSI) for unsymmetrical type two-phase induction motors. This strategy allows a control method of the output voltages with typically constant V/Hz for a main winding and with voltage boost to compensate magnitude of current for an auxiliary winding. Harmonic voltage characteristics and the motor performance are investigated under a wide range of operating conditions. Practical verification is presented to confirm correctness and capabilities of the proposed technique. All results are compared to those of a conventional two-leg half bridge topology. The results show that the simulation results well agree with the experimental ones, and also the proposed scheme is superior to the conventional drive. © 2005, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Item type:Publication, Modulating functions of space vector PWM for three-leg VSI-fed unbalanced two-phase induction motors(2009-02-10); Charumit, ChakrapongModulating functions or space-vector-equivalent references of a carrier-based unbalanced two-phase output space vector pulsewidth modulation (SVPWM) strategy applied to a three-leg voltage source inverter are proposed in this letter. These functions are derived from a conventional balanced two-phase SVPWM method. The proposed SVPWM method is implemented using a DS1104 dSPACE controller board. With the proposed method, the appropriate voltages for both windings of an asymmetrical-parameter-type two-phase induction motor can be achieved for improving the motor performance. Experimental and calculated results confirm the validity of the proposed method. © 2009 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Harmonic analysis of corona discharge ozone generator using brush electrode configuration(2000-01-01) ;Boonseng, C.; Apriratikul, P.This paper describes a new method of ozone generation particularly suited to use in water treatment. The authors present harmonic analysis and the ozone concentration generated by a new type of ozone generation. Relative harmonic distortions in line input have been investigated experimentally. The experimental results were obtained using a concentric cylinder with brush electrode separated by a glass tube. This configuration can avoid breakdown. Essentially AC high voltage is derived from a high voltage transformer, which is controlled by a flyback converter. The ozone generator can produce 64 ppm ozone at 15 kV output and switching frequency approximately 20 kHz. Finally, the effects of corona discharge power on the corona surrounding temperature and its relationship with ozone concentration have also been investigated. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

These concerns include power system harmonics and neutral current caused by voltage sags and short interruption. The neutral current characteristics under that condition are described. Methods for identifying these problems, analysis, determining their impact on utility and customer are also described. The EMTP simulation, field measurement and experimental results are used to verify the disturbance problems. The applications of regression model to predict neutral current growth trend during power line disturbances from measured data is proposed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Failure analysis of dielectric of low voltage power capacitors due to related harmonic resonance effects(2001-12-01) ;Boonseng, C.; ; ;Nakawiwat, K.Apiratikul, P.This paper presents an investigation on the failure of low voltage power capacitors used in the textile industrial located on Thailand. The causes of the failure as well as the failure mechanisms of the dielectric used as the insulation of such capacitors are analyzed. It is found that the harmonic resonance can increase the current flowing through the capacitors. This result in the extra heat, generated inside the dielectric, which exceeds the level under the normal operation. Such heat results in the increase of the partial discharge inside the capacitors. This can eventually lead to the reduction of the lifetime of the capacitors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
