Item type:Publication, Free sterols from acid hydrolysis of steryl glucosides(2021-05-20) ;Yuangsawad, Ratanaporn ;Sinpichai, Sarawut ;Sukra, ArunrotSteryl glucosides (SG) are a group of insoluble chemicals in biodiesel. Steryl glucosides may cause clogging in production line and even small amounts of them may also cause low storage stability of biodiesel and plugging in a diesel engine. Therefore, an additional separation step is required to remove these contaminants. Since steryl glucosides have low solubility in many organic solvents, it is difficult to utilize the solid waste generated from the separation. Transformation of steryl glucosides to the form that are more soluble in general organic solvents should increase feasibility of utilization of the solid waste. In this study, hydrolysis of steryl glucosides to free sterols (FS) was investigated using nontoxic organic acid as catalyst. The hydrolysed products obtained from citric, lactic, and acetic acids were identified using a gas chromatograph connected with a mass spectrometer (GC-MS). The amounts of steryl glucosides and free sterols were also measured to compare efficiency of the catalysts. The most suitable catalyst was selected according to conversion of steryl glucoside (XSG), selectivity to free sterols (SFS), and yield of free sterols (YFS). To determine important parameters effecting the steryl glucosides conversion, the reaction test was performed with the selected catalyst at various operating condition. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Removal of steryl glucosides in palm oil based biodiesel by adsorption on an acid treated resin(2012-12-01); ;Kitchaiya, P.Yuangsawad, R.A study was performed to identify the minor components causing the precipitate formation in palm oil based biodiesel (PO-B100) and to remove the components from PO-B100 by selective adsorption using an acid treated resin (H-resin). The adsorption capacity of the H-resin was measured under isothermal condition using batch adsorption experiments. The contents of glycerol, mono-, di-, and triglycerides in the obtained PO-B100 were acceptable according to ASTM D6584. The steryl glucosides (SGs) adsorption capacity of the H-resin was 128 mg<inf>SGs</inf>-g<inf>resin</inf>. To regenerate the adsorbent, the desorption of SGs using several organic solvents was also studied. Item type:Publication, Synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymer for sterol separation(2016-06-28) ;Yuangsawad, Ratanaporn ;Chuayrueng, Nuengruthai ;Nonthanasin, Nattawat ;Binabdullah, KrittinMolecular imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared by bulk polymerization in acetone using acrylamide as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinker, stigmasterol as a template and benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The obtained MIPs were characterized using a scanning electron microscope and a fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer. Performance in sterol adsorption of MIPs prepared under various conditions was investigated using a model solution of phytosterols in heptane, comparing with a nonimprinted polymer (NIP). Statistical analysis revealed that the amounts of crosslinker and template strongly affected the performance of MIP while the amount of solvent slightly affected the performance of MIP. MIP synthesized under the optimal condition had adsorption capacity of 1.28 mgsterols/gads which were 1.13 times of NIP. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Improving the catalytic activity of CaO derived from oyster shell waste for transesterification of palm oil with methanol(2010-12-01); Puangkamlai, P.Transesterification of palm oil with methanol was studied using the CaO derived from the shell waste (CaOshell) and a commercial grade CaO (CaO-com). The effects of temperature, atmospheric gas and gas concentration in the treatment process on the catalytic activity of the obtained CaO were examined. Although the activity of the CaO-shell was much lower than the CaO-com when the treated gas was air, the activity of the CaO-shell was significantly improved with suitable treating condition. The activity of the CaO-shell was improved to the same level with the one of the CaO-com when the CaO-shell was treated with N <inf>2</inf>. The activity of the CaO-shell was further improved when 50% of water was added into the treating gases. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 19th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering and 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (Prague, Czech Republic 8/28/2010-9/1/2010).
